Best Anti-Virus Software

Active virus shield works fine for me and 10 other mates that use it. Not had a problem so far with it after switching over from kaspersky a couple of months ago.

I follow those principles, but having been on the receiving end of infected files from reputable and known sources (Microsoft of all places for one - you may say they're not reputable, but in my line of business we deal with them just about daily), that just doesn't fly with me.
Were they actually from Microsoft, or just one of the spoof "Microsoft Security Patch" emails with a supposed update in?

We had one of them get through our corporate AV (McAfee), but ClamWin picked it up after I got suspicious and started poking it.

Many people wont say its the best but i use norton never had a virus with it so sticking to it :)
My Dad used Norton and "never had a virus with it". Shortly before his subscription expired, I removed Norton and put AVG free on instead.

A scan before reconnecting to the 'net pulled up a virus sitting there that Norton had never even seen...

Put me right off it, that did.

Now I personally use a combination of Panda online scan and ClamWin Portable every month or so, just to check that I've not got something nasty.

I'm a recent convert to Kaspersky Anti virus, while letting Windows and my router take care of the fire-walling.

I did spend many years with increasingly desperate versions of Norton, and a woeful interlude with McAfee's system hogging monstrosity. It took a while to purge my system of the aforementioned bloaters, but it's good to be back to a much sleeker Processes tab ;) .

I changed over to Nod32 few days ago updates fast automatically and no big window like Personal AV. Kaspersky is pretty good i have used it and i would probobally rate it more than Nod32. Avast if you only have a few PC's and they are not too slow as i found it did slow down my pc a tiny bit. But Nod32 with its flexibility and that i can use it on vista which im installing right now :D.

Using Kaspersky Internet Security 6, quite impressed with it, antivirus component is good, took up the offer of 2 for the price of 1, that was posted here just before Christmas (2006), so got 2 licenses for £38. :)

I might move over when my mcafee sub ends so thanks for the heads up.

I want away from mcafee since they thought it a good idea to put pop-up adverts in their virus notification area so now when i'm playing a game the game stutters to a halt only to find that McAfee are reminding me for the xth time to "upgrade" to their privicy protection blah blah!

I wrote them a strong email of complaint and they replyed telling me how to switch it off, but it wasn't a simple process to find it buried in the options somewhere.

McAfee is going nortons way I think so time to move on.

Norton used to be good I had systemworks 2001 and it was great.

AVG - super light on system resources. I have tried many others else, even the 'best' virus scanners and AVG is still the one that is very easy to use & quick.

In my opinion, AV is unnecessary for the sort of user that has common sense and doesn't download vast numbers of dodgy exe files.
Yeah, but imagine if you were me, working in Rwanda where computer technology has only really got going in the last year. Flashdisks are now becoming very popular here! Shortly after i got here I had to get someone to bring out from England because floppy disks kept dying - i don't think they like the heat. And of course very few internet cafe's have AV software, so as flash drives became cheaper, more people have them and now there are virus' everywhere!

My need for AV software isn't really for me, although i'd prefer to safe than sorry - It's because i don't have time to keep repairing the damage virus' are doing to our computers. I have to run the Accounts for an entire organisation - all i really knew before i came out here was IT, now im Financial Controller, IT Manager/Technician/Trainer and more

If i can get all of these computers totally protected from virus', maybe soon i will get a full weekend off work! In 2 years ive had 2 weeks holiday, and 1 week of that i ended up working

Yes, common sense helps, but for that you first need knowledge in computers - which very few people have. Figure this one out - many computer courses out here teach (at this present time) .... DOS  erm, why? god knows! Good to know back in the days of win98, but not now. It's a very confusing place out here, but i love it :p So for now, here i will stay ;)

Kinda off subject.. but with NOD32.. do you still get virus updates if you go past the trial date?

Ie.. will I have to pay to get further updates?
Thinking I might try Avast now like.. don't fancy paying £23 a year...
