I have been using my laptop speakers for longer than I can remember now and I want to upgrade my sound a little bit.
I have decent headphones but sometimes especially during long edit sessions, I prefer not to wear headphones and just have background sound whether it is music or streaming content.
The problem I have is that the laptop is being replaced by a mini ITX build, and although the mobo comes with a DAC, Im limited to a 3.5mm audio jack. I do also have FP audio.

ROG Strix Hive II Audio Features
- ROG Hyper-Grounding Technology
- ESS® SABRE9260Q DAC
- Silver-plated audio jacks
- Dedicated audio PCB layers

Do I go USB?
Do I go Bluetooth?
Stay with 3.5mm jack?

I just want some 2.0 speakers, maybe a 2.1 system if the sub isn't too big but leaning towards 2.0 at the moment.
It would be nice If I could connect my phone to the speakers via bluetooth if that is worth doing.

Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction please?

Budget no more than 400 - I presume that will be enough?

Edit, the PC is 90% production task with only games that are a pain on console being played such as AOE4 or Factorio so gaming sound is not a requirement for these speakers really.

If you wanted to do it on the cheap look at what nobsound has to offer. I know it's a terrible name but I bought a little device that allows me to connect a 3.5mm jack or Via Bluetooth to a set of bookshelf speakers the sound quality far exceeds what my creative speakers are capable of.
I bought a set of mordaunt-short speakers for about £20 locally and the set up has been doing me proud for at least 4 years.

Yamaha hs7 are awesome especially if your going to be sitting fairly close.
193 per speaker though and no Bluetooth

you'd need a cable to use them

3.5mm to 6.35mm x2 Cable 1.5m Splitter Vitalco Mini Jack 1/8 Inch Stereo to Double 1/4 Inch Mono

Doubt you'd want a sub with them, they are big though

Thanks, will check them out despite the name
Which device did you end up getting?

At the top end of my budget I would be going for bluetooth, maybe the post above will help with that, I will check both options out so thanks for that.

high end stuff doesnt have bluetooth its a gimmick for budget stuff.

anyway you get what you pay for, most people never heard good sounding audio in their life so don't know the difference.

I guess they can consider that a blessing.

I’ve got some edifer 1280DBS - they were only about £120 but the sound quality is pretty good for the price.

They take 3.5mm, optical and Bluetooth. They have a remote to switch between the inputs. I’ve got my PC, monitor with fire stick and phone connected to them.

They do some nicer models further up your budget. Worth a look
