Name 5 of the best bands you can think of from England.

Not really a definitive list but, for me..

Oasis
Beatles
Stone Roses
The Who
Rolling Stones

No american rubbish :D
 
Muse
Queen
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
The Darkness

That's all I can think of my preferences wise... until I think some more it'll stay that way.

Can't really argue with that list, save I might replace The Stones with Queen.
 
queen's an odd one though, what with have a frontman who wasnt British. I'd still say it was 'British' music though, and id rate queen as one of the best bands ever tbh.

fron that list, id replace oasis with queen, oasis were more 'could have beens'.
 
People knock Oasis but in ~95/96 my parents asked where Oasis would be in 10 years. They're still going, albeit with a couple of different band members.

Still producing great music though, selling out tours in minutes too :)
 
Most of the bands that immediately came to mind have already been mentioned but I don't think any list of the best British bands is complete without mention of The Kinks. Honourable mention to The Specials also although they might have have only one standout track they were a good group.

If I had to pick 5 I'd probably go with (in no particular order):
The Kinks
The Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Who
Iron Maiden
 
Yeah Oasis are brilliant. They are consistent, and have wrote a lot better songs than most over bands over the last 10 years or so.

Listening to "Whatever" now, what a track.
