Hi,

There seems to be so much choice on cheaper 4k tv's that I really don't know what to look for.

Apart from the obvious requirement of 4k, HDR seems to be something to look for aswell. Or is there more to it than that? Is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Thanks in advance for any advice, it is greatly appreciated.

At lower screen sizes HDR appears to have far more impact than 4K imho.
In any case I'll keep banging on about the Hisense range, at that price point I'm unaware of anything near their offerings.

Oh nice, didn't find that one, thanks. I see it has HDR but have heard that sometimes it's not 'true' HDR, do I need to look for a further certification or something? Something about 10 bit panels V 8 bit

I've actually read somewhere recently that the M3000 will do 10 bit after a software upgrade, but I'm not sure if that is true.

I have just ordered the M3000 for delivery on Saturday so I'll find out then I suppose :D

What about something like

SAMSUNG UE40KU6020 for £369 (40in)

or

LG 43UH603V for £339 (43in)

How do these two compare to the Hisense?

Don't be put off by Hisense, tvs reviewed incredibly well for their price-point, I'd choose them (and the extra size) over the above if I was in the market for a new TV.

I was actually considering the H55M7000 last month as an upgrade from our 40" Samsung H6400, but decided we didn't really watch enough in the lounge to justify it (most watching is in the bedroom where we are limited to 32").

I too have a hisense - 55M7000 - and after lots of tweaking im happy with it - LG chess demo is stunning!

I have researching tvs for a while now and the lg's at this price point should be avoided as then aren't 4K thanks to rgbw.

My Hisense H49M3000 supports 10bit HDR from my PS4 pro (although I believe the panel is 8bit and 10bit HDR is implemented through emulation) for £350 I can't fault the quality of the TV. I'm particularly impressed with how up scaled content appears, even the text in the virgin tivo menus looks sharp. Obviously stuff like ratchet and clank look a fair deal better.

Some extras I was attracted to.
Dual tuner (One Freeview One Freesat)
Passable smart TV support (Netflix/Amazon/Youtube/Plex) Note:not all have 4K support.
HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 4k@60hz/HDR support (on 2 ports only, with 2 additional hdmi 1.4 ports)
1 USB 3.0 port and 2 USB 2.0 ports (so far the USB3.0 only appears to support a 32GB drive so it's functionally useless in my opinion, the others are handy for chromecast/firestick power)
1Gbe Wired socket
And lastly a headphone socket (without which is a dealbreaker on other sets)

Frankly at £350 for a 49" I couldn't see anything even 4K from other manufacturers.

Good luck what ever you buy.

Agreed, I had to turn off nearly anything with the word dynamic in it, across all picture settings. Hopefully a software update will improve the dynamic contrast/back lighting, currently I find it functionally useless.

My brother has the 43UH603V, it's a decent little TV. I was surprised at the quality of the image considering its low price tag. The WebOS interface is excellent as well, it seemed as responsive as my OLED.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Being able to narrow down so much has been great.

Based on your suggestions, it seems that I should get:

Hisense H49M3000 for £369 (delivered)

or

Samsung UE40KU6020 for £349.95 (£359.94 delivered)

They both seem really close, with a lot of praise for the Hisense. My only major concern now is screen size. The room I'll be watching tv from is quite small, I'll be just over 2.5 meters from the screen. 49in seems quite big that close up. What are your thoughts on proper screen sizes v viewing distance?

Thanks again for the help

we sit closer than that and it seems good, though the space the TV is in is large.
2 points.
Ive read the hisense has weaker viewing angles, in my room that is not an issue.
At below 49 " Im not convinced 4k makes much difference.
