Best budget GPU £300

A shame you couldn't stretch to £350, as the 980Ti is a sweet card for that price. I can't really recommend the RX480 after seeing what performance was like. I would go for a fury if £300 is the top of your budget and faster than your 390, so an upgrade at least.

^^ this, if you could stretch to £350 the 980 Ti is a fantastic card! plus they like to overclock so get one to 1400mhz+ and you'll beat a stock 1070 and it wont be much behind if any at all a overclocked one as the gains are smaller from overclocking pascal as it is Maxwell

I already had a thread where I asked this question after getting to the bottom of my current gpu woes.

Long story short is that card is being rma for a full refund of £300 so I need to get myself a new card.

Not got a clue what card to get that will give me the best performance and also futureproof me as much as possible for my budget.

My current monitor is a 1080p freesync.

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit
Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI Intel Z170
Super Flower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply
NZXT S340 midi case.

Fury Nitro at £300. I could have said also the XFX 390X at £250 but has sold out.

if you're intending to keep this card for at least a good 3 years then yes I'd pick up the 1070 with it's 8gb Vram as games today at 1080p maxed out with a bit of aa can consume 4gb easily so why 6gb on the Ti is nice 8gb just gives you that bit more breathing room, and if you're not into overclocking the 1070 is faster than a stock 980 Ti :) also the zotac comes with 5 years warranty :)

But would it make the game smoother from having higher FPS that you would get with a 980ti over a RX 480....?

Absolutely 100% yes. I went from a 980Ti overclocked at 1450 and a non Freesyn 4K monitor to a Fury Pro with Freesync 4K. Even though OC vs OC the 980Ti was 20%+ faster it did not feel anywhere near as smooth as the Fury with Freesync.

Example
Witcher 3 was giving an average of ~50 FPS average with mostly max settings apart from DoF, motion blur and hairworks off.

Same settings on the Fury was getting ~40 FPS average but the addition of Freesync made the whole game feel much smoother.

The OP has a 1080p Freesync monitor, he may as well make use of it.

You would have to be really pushing it to use 4gb plus, I game at 1920x1080p @ 60hz and I think it was the division that I stayed between 1.7gb & 1.8gb at the very max of my 2gb 270x, so think your safe at 4gb lol
