unlike those who build pc's just to get to the top of a leaderboard just to be able to say my pc is better than your's. whats the point in that, its like being back at school going my bikes better than yours as i have 18 gears and yours only have 15.

Like twoblacklines my pc is on 24/7 so when im not gaming or having to do work on it i let it fold away

I fold for reasons like this (ie the research that comes out of it). I use the scoretables to see how well my setups are folding and what the predictions are for the future.

sexy cars look great, i gues if you like the look of boats you could say that as well. I dont quite get sexy guns, that sounds like america where everyone has to have guns coz its cool. Oo makes a big bang must be sexy. No not really...

Do you actually understand anything they are saying in the first link. They could just be saying how they have made some calculations which suggest things. No hard discoverys, cures, causes etc. Well they may be but i personaly cant undersatnd if they are saying that or not. Which would imply you too are ignorant of what your postig.

And the other link is just awards i didn't read them all but they all seemed to eb like ooo biggest pc power etc.

Im not saying its a pointless exercize or taht its not achiving anything, just be nice to actually see something like hey look we cured this or found the cause of this etc. But i gues thats a long way away and it will be on the news when they actually discover something worth noting.

As of yet i dont think ive seen any breakthroughs from folding on the news and did infact remeber seeing some people questioning it. But hey better then pacman like i said before

The project isnt designed to find a cure for xxx etc, biology is just too far complicated. Any breakthroughs will be made by the scientists who can use this data to expedite there own experiments etc.

There was a popular distributed computing project used to crack a encryption key, that worked as the key was already known.

Wowsers, this thread has grown a bit since this morning..

I do a spot of folding myself, I don't do GPU folding anymore, but my PC is set up so that FaH uses the idle moments to 'fold'. It doesn't have any effect on the ability of my PC to play games as it automatically backs off when I start to play.

I even set it up on my Mum's PC, so while she's on her craft forums discussing the latest knitting patterns or whatever, her pc is folding away merrily.

I see it as my little contribution to the serious business of trying to find causes and eventually cures of some very nasty illnesses, if my pc not sitting completely idle means someone is saved from a nasty death in the future then surely that's a good thing.

I personally wouldn't build a PC just for folding, but, hey, we are all different, and if they wish to make a larger contribution or fold competitively, then I see no harm in it, only good can come of it.

Just my thoughts.
