best case fans?

Another vote for the Akasa Ambers.

I think they probably offer the best compromise of airflow/noise/cost you will find. Yes there are others that are are quieter and give better performance, but the Akasa Ambers are only a fraction of the cost.

Hope this helps.

Erm, they are the same price :p

Well, maybe not a fraction but they are certainly cheaper than the others I was thinking about.

Eg. Akasa Amber 80mm £4.64
For an equivalent Silenx fan you would pay somewhere around £10, and for a Nexus close to £12.

80mm's then its true.

120mm are much of a muchness on cost...
Amber: £10.52 Inc
Nexus: £10.70 Inc
Panaflo L1a: £11.99 Inc

Go for an Amber off OCUK. Ive got 1 wired into my controller and its very good, keeps my case temps down.

Although i would recommend taking a look at Coolermaster, Their LED range with the aluminium is very quiet, i think mine are at about 16DB. OCUK don't stock them though, in fact i don't know where to get them from now. Have a look on Coolermaster's site.

I would like it to be over 40/45CFM but under 25DB(A)

You wont find an 80mm that REALLY does those figures... you can get 40/45 cfm but it will be LOUD.... Or you can get 25dB(A) fans, but they wont push much air....

DONT believe manufacturers specs... they measure in open air and at different distances/angles from the fan to make there fans look good... And quite often the airflow measurements (cfm) are theoretical....

Silentpcreview has lots of proper measurements of both noise and air movement.

If you have room to mod I would chop a 120mm blowhole in the roof of the case... Bin the 80mm idea and do the job properly once. :) Quiet with good airflow :)

Then get the akasa ones with built in speed control

At max speed they push about 45-50cfm (very loud) but can be lowered to around 20-25db and 25cfm

No, not the ambers they don't have an LED version.

Akasa AK-170BL4B Crystal 4x Blue LED Speed Control Fan (FG-002-AK)

Just under £6 each

Speed ranges from 2000 rpm to 3800 rpm

Noise from 22db to 39db

Airflow from 25cfm to 46cfm

They are your best bet, I had one a while ago before moving to an all 120mm case and they are pretty good... very high pressure and airflow at max speed but very loud.

Akasa Ambers are excellent quiet fans, although nexus are better (OCuk don't sell them)

Personally I would buy an Aerocool turbine fan, they perform almost exactley the same as the Nexus but are only £4 plus delivery from elsewhere (about £7 total)
