Best Compact/CSC For ~£400

Wish me luck! :D

Ahh fair enough, I completely agree, it is a bit 'too' small in a lot of cases, however mines going to spend 90% of its life in a housing which will make it as big as a DSLR again in some respects although I did read one review stating they found it easier to use when its in the housing, hehe.

When are you looking to purchase?

So, when I got up this morning I realised that I still wanted the same camera. This is a major breakthrough :D

This morning I also I put my financial plans to pay for the camera in front of the other half and it worked! I have been given the go ahead to spend the necessary pennies on a GX7. This honesty lark paid off in the end!

My only concern now is where to get it and which colour scheme to get. I am definitely getting the 14-42mm kit lens, then the 20mm by redemption. I like the black and silver body over the black - but it seems to me that the majority of the Panasonic lenses are pure black. I am not sure how my quirkiness over synchronicity will handle having only black lenses and a black and silver camera. I've also not seen the black version in the flesh. Finally, stock on the black/silver is limited and my chosen vendor doesn't sell them at all :(

So my adventure is not yet over, but it has moved forward considerably overnight!

Haha, well that certainly is a breakthrough!

Get the all black version?

Why, because it looks more pro, everyone knows you're a pro with a Black camera, how many silver 5D Mkiii's do you see knocking around? :p

this is a fascinating thread, better than eastenders,i loved the bit about how you woke up and still wanted the same thing, thats a very common experience of mine changing mind overnight.
glad you're nearly there.:)

Thanks, fellas - it's quite liberating to think I've finally made my mind up and got the go-ahead from the other half :D
Eastenders for camera lovers :D

SRS Microsystems are doing GX7 with the 20mm f1.7 for £749 with a free 12-32mm by redemption.
That's some saving on that combination - I was actually intending to do it the other way around. Have you dealt with that company before?

My chosen vendor was actually John Lewis - for their returns policy more than anything else. I've also got nothing but good things to say about their Customer Service and there is one five minutes walk from work. Sadly, they only do the more expensive 20mm option and only in black.

Phate, perhaps the all black option might be on the cards.... Columbo has also thrown a spanner in the works - my only concern there being I don't know the company at all for a big purchase.

SRS are great, and that's a cracking deal. Buy it.

Or get JL to pricematch.

EDIT - that might be a pricing error from SRS? On the product page and in basket it says £849. Wilkinson Camera do have it at £749 though, so get a JL price match going.

They are out of stock in the black - which is the only one that JL have.
That said, they have the other option, where you get the 20mm by redemption, for £649 which is a brilliant price. Sadly, JL don't have that at all.

Wonder if JL would price match the other colour. You could try.
I could - but I would rather get the 14-42mm lens now and the 20mm by redemption for £100 less. I may just order direct from Wilkinson Cameras if that price is still there when I get home.

Sadly, JL have confirmed that they have no intention of restocking the silver version, or stocking the version with the 14-42mm lens. So what they have is the last of it for the foreseeable.

Thanks for hunting out those deals.

The Rokinon 7.5 fisheye is meant to be awesome. Cheap, super sharp, 180 degree FOV and correctable to a degree if required.

With wideangles you're basically looking at the 9-18 or 7-14. 9-18 is less expensive, tiny and takes filters. The 7-14 is (relatively) large, expensive and doesn't take filters, but otherwise excellent. I went with the 9-18.

Primes there's all kinds of choice, depending on what sort of price, focal length and size you want.
