Best Defragment prog?

Windows built-in. More than plenty. Moving OS files to the fastest part of the platter? Don't talk crap. Outside of benchmarks I bet no one could tell the difference in performance. Most oft-used OS files are held in RAM anyway.
 
When I was using a mechanical hard drive, I didn't worry about manually defragmenting my hard drive and simply let Windows Vista / Windows 7 defragment the disk on the predefined schedule and my system was always running absolutely fine. The amount of maintenance you need to perform on a Windows Vista or a Windows 7 based system can be kept to a minimal if you practice smart usage habits from the very beginning. You don't need any of these third-party applications that you can get a hold off left, right and center these days to keep your system running in an optimal way.

This is what I thought. Win7 defrags all it needs to when the machine is idle, and it does it smartly, according to which files and file fragments are used often or used together. Or so I keep reading ;)

As far as the storage devices are concerned, this year's PerfectDisk Professional has extended its support and it can now defragment SSD drives as well. Solid State Drives are automatically detected by the application in order to optimize them for the best performance boost.

Anyone used this on an SSD, thought defrag was a NO NO on them.
 
It won't be a defrag in the traditional sense of moving the files together but probably something to do with TRIM/GC which is keeps the drive running quick.

I've been using PerfectDisk on automatic screensaver mode for years now and have never had a problem. Keeps my drives below 1% fragmentation without me evening noticing it.

If you're after a free one then go MyDefrag
 
May I ask whats the point of defragging and what are the benefits from windows 7 defrag tool and perfect disk?
