Best dj software?

Club I was in last night was using Sam DJ - very basic software!!

Fruityloops is definitely not an option.

Scratch Live, Traktor and Final Scratch are the only things that are up to standard and worth using outwith a bedroom. The last thing you want in a club is substandard software and hardware.

theres nothing substandard about VDJ or a maya soundcard, dont be blinded by brandname and advertising, that little box that comes with serato for hooking up to your mixer has identical innards to a maya, its the software that costs the bulk of the cash and if you already have VDJ, why pay 300 more, the end result is identical

Not sure i agree with you there, the software can't even handle key-lock without the audio jumping and it's beat matching ability is poor

a) I never use key lock, I play tracks as they are intended :p
b) Erm, don't you beatmatch yourself? :p

a) What about when you are trying to mix in key but the next track, same key, is 2 or 3 bpm higher? (edit: and i've just thought, you use Ableton now don't you? Which key locks everything by default...)

b) When i used VDJ i would sync automatically and adjust manually, just because it's possible to adjust it manually doesn't mean should have to (edit: it's worth saying this is without using a midi controller)

bought virtual dj a few years ago and used it a lot with various midi controllers/soundcards without any real problems

id feel a bit dirty using virtual dj to play out though because to me it doesnt offer much over some traditional decks + CDJs

ive used ableton a lot over the last year and its what id use if i was ever going to play out with software. theres just so many things you can do with it and so many different ways to use it. really is a great piece of software

a) In a vain attempt at keeping to my turntable roots, when I mix harmonically, I adjust my tracklist accordingly, I don't alter the tracks to fit in. :p

b) That's what I mean, sync for close proximity, then manually adjust for accuracy, so why does VDJs syncing accuracy matter?

I used to use Virtual DJ but when I found out about Traktor DJ, Virtual DJ had to go...
Traktor is just so much more practical and just simple to use, Virtual DJ just looks like to me as if its a cheap version of Traktor but in darker colours.
