best drinking games?

Sometimes play fingers.

Basically a cup/glass/pan gets passed around and everybody feels free to add as much or as little alcohol as they like depending how daring they are feeling.

It is then placed in the centre and everybody places 1 finger on it. The first person to go counts 1...2...3...then says a number between 0 and the number of people in the circle. At that exact moment everybody (including the person counting) either leaves their finger in place or removes it. If the number the person said is the same as the number of fingers left on the pan/cup then they are out of the game and will not have to down the contents of the pan/cup.

Whoever is left obviously has to down the contents.

Ring of fire

A - One finger for yourself
2-5 - Delegate 2-5 fingers to other people
6 - Toilet Card (Needs secret password, good for groups with new people, can also trade for anything at all, bartering for cards is fun)
7 - A game of 7's
8 - New Game / New Rule
9 - Thumbmaster (Someone puts a thumb down somewhere the rest of the group must match, popular target is crotch/boobs, last person gets fined)
10 - F You card (fill in the blanks, works when combined with rules below, last person to shout the aforementioned profanity when the cardholder says it is fined)
J - All the men
Q - All the Women
K - Contribute to fine, last king has to down whatever is in that fine glass

Additional Rules (Gentlemans Rules)
No First Names
No use of the word finger (enjoy your fines)
No use of the word drink (enjoy more fines)
No Swearing (if you swear you must "quote" it with fingers or fines commence)
No pointing of any type
No Gloating
No False Calls

Drink by/against the clock, for by the clock; left when the hand is on the left face of the dial and right otherwise, if on the half past mark or hour mark, drink with both hands, popular when getting people to down drinks as they usually forget, in any case the drink must be repeated if this rule is broken.

Combine with members of the groups being assigned weights and measures (decides on the heftiness of the fines) and chief snitches (only these people can point out rule breakage, only needed when there are a lot of people).

Sounds like such an exciting party - you all stare at a film (Star Wars?) and drink, woo!

Was there a requirement for it to be a decent drinking party game?

Generally its good for the summer holidays with a few friends and fair amount of drinks left over.
And generally what ever floats your boat, Star Wars was an easy example due to numerous amount of repetitive phrases etc, personally i like a Futurama series and then something like the Bourne/Bond etc series.

And as shown below fairly popular.

I give up on drinking games I'm too unlucky, last time I ran out of booze, drank about 10 pints of water and barfed it all up.

We just play "I have never"

All you do is take it in turns in saying "i have never.. then completing a sentence" if you are telling the trouth you dont drink anything i u are telling lie then you drink a shot or 2 fingers of you're drink.
Everyone who is playing also has to drink if they have done what you said and dont drink if they havnt.

21, ring of fire (gets you waaaaasted), fuzzy duck, have you ever.. and to be honest i know how to play many more but have nooo idea of the names.

Truth or dare is always a winner... unless you're with all of the same sex.. then avoid..unless youre into that..then go ahead.. :D

Ring of fire, also play I have never... (where someone says "i have never done/had..." and anyone who has drinks... - it goes in a circle and can get very smutty. You can pick on people too if you know they've done something).

I see someone has mentioned centurion too, that's always a good one if you have an hour or two before the taxi to drink.

We normally make it to about 60/70 shots of strongbow before everyone is close to finished or lost interest.

We tried playing centurion with Vodka and lime cordial once too, half and half shots. You don't need me to tell you how it ended...

Found out my mate snogged his cousin via this game. Endless rippage :D

In 1st year of uni we used to play "Lost-turion" every wednesday - we'd watch lost and have a shot of beer every minute until it was over and then go out to a club :)

not quite centurion, but a good way to start a messy night!

the matchbox game is my favourite, it's not too complicated but surprisingly easy to mess up. of course it was probably easier to play when bars actually sold matches.

everyone sits round the table with their pint in front of them, the idea is for you to throw the matchbox over your pint and try and get it to land on either the long or short sides. if it lands on the long side, it's 2 fingers for the person next to you, short side it's 4 fingers. if it lands in your own pint then you have to down it. simple, fun and effective.

Close but no cigar. We used the following rules:

Ace to 4 - Red means for yourself, black means to give out. E.G 2 of Spades means you dish out 2 fingers, 2 of hearts means you have to do the 2 fingers.

5 - Game of 5's :D

6 - First 3 6's have to put a bit of drink in a glass in the middle. The poor character who picks the 4th number 6 card has to add to that glass and finish it off.

7 - A game of 7's

8 - Anything from the list, e.g. create a new rule, choose to dish out 4 fingers, play a game of 5's or 7's etc.

9 - Thumbmaster (Someone puts a thumb down somewhere the rest of the group must match, popular target is crotch/boobs, last person gets fined)

10 - Topic card. The person picking the card has to choose a topic, e.g. football grounds/type of beer/pizza toppings. Everyone else in order has to name a football ground/type of beer/pizza topping but the same one can't be said twice. The one who can't think of something for that topic must drink up.

J - Shotgun master - Before the end of the game, the shotgun master must stand up and wave a shotgun (made of air) above the other players heads. The last person to duck must drink up!!.

Q - Question card! The person who picks this keeps the card til they ask another player a question. If the sender of the question gets told to do one and sod off then they have to drink. If the reciepent answers the question, they have to do the drink (2 fingers).

K - Everyone fills their glass up and starts drinking. However, you can't stop drinking until the person to your right has finished. Therefore the person to the left of the guy that picked the card stops when the card holder stops, the third stops when the 2nd stops etc. The poor chap to the right of the card holder normally doesn't fair to well.

All in all a bloody good game. Spend many nights at uni playing it and it usually ended up with some wacky story for the next day.:D

Another good one is Centurion :D. All the players have a number of can's of larger lined up and a shot glass. There needs to be a visible clock with a second hand as well.

Fill the shot glasses up and take a shot every minute. It sounds easy but after 30-40 the minutes pass really quickly. Still sound easy? Make it too a hundred and keep going and THEN bear in mind your not aloud to leave the room for the loo!!:D If you leave the room your game is over and clearly you don't win. I wouldn't recommend going playing this game before a night out as even though it's pretty quick, you really do get pretty hammered.
