Best Film of the Year 2023

Think I've only watched 3 or 4 2023 releases :( So either John Wick 4 or Sisu for me (currently waiting on Killers of the Flower Moon to hit Apple tv)

Is it me or has it been a bad year for movies this year?

I heard that Barbie and Oppenheimer have been nominated for Golden Globe.

I tried to watch Oppenheimer yesterday and fell asleep. I might try again today.
I think so, didn't find anything this year noteworthy.

Films I enjoyed the most has been
MI: Dead Reckoning and GotG 3

Barbie is overrated and Oppenheimer is a snooze fest.

I think it's been an 'ok' year for films, but I'm finding the length of films rather overly long. Like Oppenheimer is 3 hours! Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones are just shy of 3 hours. Having films that long means it's harder to plan a night around it and having friends who can commit that amount of time if they were to join me or if I was joining them. I know "how long is a piece of string?" but 90 minutes for animated films and 2 hours for live action seem about right for me for ballpark figures.

I watched a fair few films this year and ones that stick out and are in no particular order...

Barbie
Oppenheimer
Dungeons and dragons
no one will save you
John Wick 4
mi4 dead reckoning
Godzilla minus one.
The Creator

Best overall for honestly a toss up between Barbie/JW4 for just being stupid and funny entertaining and Oppenheimer for being the exact opposite :p tho i still really liked it lol

dint see spider verse or a few other relatively biggy ones.

Ugh. I tried to watch both and didn't get very far.

I thought Barbie might be fun, given how popular it was, but lost interest in that as soon as Ken started to do his thing and I realised the entire film was about equality and so on. Gah.

Oppenheimer just looked rubbish from the onset, and I have no doubt it was factually incorrect.

This year has just been a yawn.
