Best films of the decade??

Did you not read this?

I've always argued that there are those that go to the cinema for no more than all out entertainment (which is fine ) and those who go looking for an experience

I see films of that nature as a bit of fun, something I'll forget about after I leave the cinema. Like I said, for many that is more than enough to warrant their admission fee.

Yes, and what I'm saying - that despite you wading in once again to prove that only Gustov may hold any opinion on film - is that Iron Man goes deeper than you gave it credit for. Such is the beauty of subjectivity.

You know you could end any argument in the world with

'Such is the beauty of subjectivity'

In simpler terms the old classic - Opinions are like ********, we all have one.

I've quite clearly demonstrated more than 1 perspective (those who go for just entertainment and those who go for more) on film preference so maybe you should think before you start throwing around statements like 'only Gustov may hold any opinion on film'

Don't mind CGI fests but how anyone could say Doomsday is anything but dire I have no idea.

LOTR trilogy, Se7en, Matrix (1, pretend the others never happened), The Departed, Man on Fire (similar, but better, than Taken imo), Fight Club etc.

I'm not throwing it around at all Gustov. I'm laying it firmly at your door. All I ever see in this sub-forum is you wading in and trying to shout down any one who dares think differently from you. And yes, I could end any prose with something ambigious, but I don't. It reaffirmed a point, rather than obfuscated it, so I think it'll do fine where it is.

Here's a couple of questions for you: What do you think art is? What is a good film?

Just because the masses dictate that the Godfather was something special, doesn't mean it was. Nor does the fact that other posters hate Muse, mean that they are crap either.

If your intention isn't to try and out-voice other posters Gustov, then I suggest you seriously try and address your posting style because it's doing nothing for your cause. If it's not film or music you're getting silly over, it's football.

So, the point? Rather than simply saying "LOL CRAP!" in future, try writing a reasoned post on why you think it is. Even your later clarification of "I feel it lacked character development and this is important to me." would be better than simply declaring someone as in the wrong. All you're doing is irritating others as you repeatedly come across as rude and childish, or worse: conceited.

What? You think your point will do fine where it is? Making loads of sense there.

You're the one who's coming across as incompetent and childish, feel free to actually read my posts in which I quite obviously state that IT IS perfectly acceptable for someone to share a different opinion than mine.

I won't go in to what I believe constitutes as a 'good' film because once again if you were to read my posts you would know. But hey, there's no such thing a 'good film' right? That's the beauty of subjectivity...

Since when did I say LOL CRAP? Another one of your false accusations that holds no truth. I said Iron Man was dire and then elaborated on why I believed it was. Once again, the beauty of subjectivity...(hopefully the sarcasm shines through the second time)

Off the top of my head Inception & The Departed are the only films from the first list that make it into the past decade, of the second list I think maybe half. Some good films but as you rightly point out they don't quite meet the criteria.

The Hangover is a terrible un funny unoriginal film, i never understood why people find it funny?

Is it this Generations crazy film?? like we had, dude where's my car?

only funny part of the film was the photos in the end credits.

What? You think your point will do fine where it is? Making loads of sense there.

Urm, yes. Because - and here's the subtle point I actually gave you enough credit to pick up on but you've obviously failed... again - subjectivity is something you clearly need reminding about. Your opinion, no matter how dear you hold it or how up your own backside you've become, is only your opinion. It's not fact or any form of authority. So stop bleating like it's so.

You're the one who's coming across as incompetent and childish, feel free to actually read my posts in which I quite obviously state that IT IS perfectly acceptable for someone to share a different opinion than mine.

I am, am I? No, I've been more than patient and I've had enough so I'm calling you out. You have a horrible antagonistic posting style and you come across as a conceited little twerp time and time again.

I won't go in to what I believe constitutes as a 'good' film because once again if you were to read my posts you would know. But hey, there's no such thing a 'good film' right? That's the beauty of subjectivity...

I would like you to go into what you feel constitutes a good film, so that I may actually try and ascertain why exactly you feel the need to badger anyone who dares hold a differing opinion. It's very much part of the discussion at hand, there's no hidden agenda behind it. In knowing what you consider to be art, I can see for myself what gaps are missing or indeed, different in that you feel you must always have such a strong opinion and why you always seem to feel others are wrong in an absolute sense.

Since when did I say LOL CRAP? Another one of your false accusations that holds no truth. I said Iron Man was dire and then elaborated on why I believed it was. Once again, the beauty of subjectivity...(hopefully the sarcasm shines through the second time)

It's called a paraphrase, and yes, sadly it holds plenty of truth. You elaborated after the fact and only once people disagreed with you. Try including it in the original post in future and maybe you won't come across as such an elitist pleb.

And, don't think for one second I can be bothered to go through your posts to back up my accusations. Reading them once is sentence enough. Anyone who's familiar with your attitude and posts will know exactly where I'm coming from.

You have a nasty tendancy to grasp onto an opinion despite all remaining facts and shout until the other person gives up. I don't know if it's pride or just poor social skills, but you do do it.

I'm done here. I'm not going to get dragged down to your level.

No need, for you are already many levels below me as I am the one and only elitist pleb.

Thanks for wasting your own time writing another load of drivel about how I disregard everyone else's opinion despite me quite obviously declaring I'm more than open to other's opinion.

Dude he has a degree in watching films.....AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA..
Sorry Nix but you know nothing.

You do realise that doesn't mean jack, right?

The first thing any person worth their salt realises, is that they know nothing. So yes, I know that and agree with you.

However, I lived with media students and even went as far as to help one attack his dissertation. I'm familiar with philosophy, art and world events at a 'degree level', so yes, I do know what I'm talking about.

And, if I'm not quite mistaken it was I who helped Gustov with ideas for his degree when he was unable to come up with any.

Careful the wind doesn't change Efour2, don't want to get stuck that way.

Sorry Nix but you know nothing.

It's called film studies, which means I do more with films than let them wash over me. An absolutely hilarious thought indeed.

If only you had the slightest of ideas about how much work goes into the production of a good film you might think twice before mocking a degree in a subject that provides you with entertainment all year round.

I don't want to get in to the argument of all out entertainment vs screenplay.

The reason for this was that I knew some uptight moron (which is reasonably polite considering what I've been labeled) would decided to go off on one.

Nix, he was being sarcastic...

If you're taking it on board and not going to continue doing it anymore, I don't feel that my time has been wasted. If anything, I've achieved exactly what I wanted, which is simply for you to stop being so antagonistic and conceited in the first place.

Which I believe I'm not. Sure, I have opinions and talk passionately about them, but that's not to say I disregard anyone elses opinion. What I tend to do is back up my argument with justifications (which is usually what people do on discussion boards).
