Best flying war game?

Will it work fine on Vista 64bit?

Also, its not just for playing online?

Plus i have read that people having problems installing the game and running it in Vista etc? Will i have hassle or not?

Oh man, I'm going to have to hoke out IL2 tomorow and have a blast at that again. Got all of it IL2: Sturnovik, Aces, Pacific and 1946. :D

Never liked playing the campaigns, too realistic for me, but I did love the jump in and play games you could get on Hyperlobby.....used to be rather good with the Fw190 + variants. Boom and zoom for the win. :D

Yes, although it may take a little tweaking, see here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1921070116

No, it has plenty of offline stuff.

I don't know, I've had it running in Vista32 with no issues at all is about all I can say.

I had a quick look in the lobby last night (I've not actually played it for ages either) and there were nearly 700 people on.

Heh, just wait for the next generation of sims, they're going to be awesome :)

I have played other sims, but I always come back to IL2, something about the era and it's technology appeals to me far more than modern stuff, although the upcoming Jet Thunder is hitting all the right spots currently, demo due before xmas apparently too :D

Works fine for me under Vista x64. I have the complete edition and found I had to run setuppffbaep.exe instead of setup.exe on the DVD, but thats the only issue.

I'd also recommend Lock On for a more contemporary flight sim

Yeh, I had to run a.exe to get it to install also, had forgotten as it's been so long since I actually installed it.

Been watching old recordings all evening, brings back some memories :D

Hot torperdo death incoming!!!

FSX? I imagine the learning curve is even more higher on that?

With FSX and FS2004 it depends on the plane you're flying as to how complicated everything is. The default aircraft that come with the game are simplified to the point of ridiculousness - if you've ever played any other flight sim, all you really need is a crash-course in navigation and you'll be away. At the other end of the scale, you have things like the PMDG series which are payware addons which attempt to model every aspect of the aircraft down to every switch and dial, and are famed for their horrendously complicated programmable Flight Management Computers.

Someone mentioned Knights Of The Sky a few posts back. Have a look at this.

Thanks for post, will check it out :)

Still waiting for my Joystick but I've been having a good go at IL2 - its great! But I've only selected some of the single player missions and messed around with the plane etc. Im having trouble getting AA/AF to work - i think i'll need todo it through control panel.

Also, as 1946 included some of the older IL2 games - are these accessible from the main menu?

Thanks

IL2-sturmovik 1946 you can get it for very little but its a lot of game, and yes it does work on vist, I am classed as a ace on it ( didn't know I fight so well)

for modern lock on with flaming cliffs, both are very advtanded and hard to get into but very rewarding they are the best simulators in my books
