The HDD manufacturers all have their own free diagnostic utilities - Seatools for Seagate, Data Lifeguard for WD, EStool for Samsung... probably best to use those.
Cheers for the reply, I just used the win7 disc check tool and sent them to my brother. Will keep them in mind if I ever have HDDs to sell on the MM though..

These are really good tools for in depth HDD diagnostic tests and can't knock them. MM wise you could give CrystalDisk a go it's free and you can find it with a simple Google search. Several different versions that give a graphical ouput ideal for showing potential customers HDD health status/sector status
Ah thats good mate will also keep that in mind. I'm one of these people, I'll believe strangers on a forum I frequent but I dont like using google for new types of programs.. dont like getting tricked into downloading viruses
