There can be no explaination...

1 Van Basten -would have been brilliant anyhoo, but was done in a thrilling cup final,to gain it extra wow points

2 Carlos free kick- a goal so good he's managed to milk it for years

3 DiCanio volley -perfection

Paul Gascoine vs Scotland in '96. Rerember the loverly chip over the defender and volley past the keeper :) :)

Micheal Owen vs Argentina. Fantastically exciting to watch :)

The Giggs run vs Aresnal??

1. George Weah, the one where he pretty much did everyone on the field.

2. Gazza, European Championships vs. Scotland

3. Giggs vs. Arsenal in the cup.

3. Matthew Le Tissier vs Newcastle - In 1994 I think it was, where he picked the ball up on the half way line, kept doing kick ups over all of the Newcastle players before arrogantly rolling it past the goalkeeper in the bottom corner.

2. Mendieta vs Barcelona - He was stood on the edge of the box for a corner, the ball was hit straight to him from the corner and he hit it first time on the volley into the top right hand corner, and I'm talking about RIGHT in the top corner. Was a shot with awesome power too. Unbelievable goal.

1. Roberto Carlos vs France - What can be said that hasn't been said already - Fantastic goal.

Was seriously hard to choose. I also considered:

Yeboah's volley against Liverpool
Zidane's Champions League Final goal
Ronaldo vs Celta Vigo
Ronaldo vs Valencia
Rivaldo's overhead kick vs Valencia
Beckham's halfway line goal
Henry's volley where he flicked it up on the edge of the box vs Man United
Van Basten

I was tempted to pick this myself, but he admitted afterwards he mishit the finish and was lucky to score it, so that marks it down a bit :)

Far too many.

For the ones i have seen live. These arent necessarily the most spec goals ever scored, its just the best ones for me, in terms of joy :)

1.Mcmanaman against celtic in uefa cup a few years ago, ran from the half line and actually scored (he normally used to give the ball away!)

2.Ruddocks header at the death against the mancs, to claw the game back to 3-3, after we were 3-0 down in the 1st half, last game infront of old kop too.

3.Collymores winner against the geordies,After we were pulled back to 3-3, won 4-3 in the end Fantastic game!!

For the best ever goals.

1. As much as it pains me, Maradonna `86

2. Mickey owen against the argies `98

3. Gazza against the scots, when he lifted it over 2.

Oh and best ever goals In prem

1. Cantona against (i cant remember could have been norwich) When he jugled it over 3 players and banged it in.

2. Le-tissier again i cant remember who it was against, but he did all himself!!

3. Dicanio Volley, absolutely fantastic

Why are people putting Beckham's lob in the top 3? Yes it was good, but it's been done better before, and since. It's only because it's Beckham that it got the coverage it did.

The reason is (i think anyway) is that at the time he was an unknown quantity that barely got into the reserves.
That goal made him!

It shouldn't be about who did it though, just about the quality of the goal. I won't deny is was excellent vision and superb tecnhique, but there have been far far better goals than that :)

Beckham's lob was good, but here's my opinion on it, feel free to slate if you think it's wrong:)

I could do that.

I could never replicate Sinclair's overhead kick, Gazza's blinder v the Scots at Wembley, Carlos's amazing free kick etc.. in a million years. But I 'could' do what Beckham did to score that goal. That's why I personally would never rank it...

anyone remember david ginolas couple of kick ups and a volley from outside the area, was it against barcelona in champions league? that was a good goal.

the best goal i seen was roberto carlos's from the corner flag, i have no idea how that went in!!

thats only 2 goals but gah

I would say

1: Maradona versus England
2: Van Basten You know the one
3: One of the ones Ronaldo scored in the clips Jazz uploaded before cant remember who against but he picked up the ball before the halfway line beat about 6 men including forcing his way between 2 of them which tried to sandwich him and scoring For Barcelona BTW.

Gotta agree with you they are 3 world class goals youve mentioned.

Others worthy of note are:

The Ryan Giggs v Arsenal goal where he took on more or less the whole team and scored.
Larsson Chip/Nutmeg against Rangers.
RC's freeekick for Brazil v France in the Tournoi a few years ago.
There are a few from the Brazil team in the World Cup in 70 or 74 that were special as well.

No doubt there are a few others but I cant remember them just now...

Yeah he said he was one on one with the goalkeeper and was tempted just to smack it, but changed his mind to just placing it past him. He meant to strike it a little cleaner than he did but he still got the accuracy right hehe. The man really is a legend hehe.

As for that Beckham goal, he wasn't an unknown then. He had already played almost the entirity of Man United's previous season where they couldn't win anything with kids :p I remember this because he wore Cica Blade football boots and my brother wanted a pair. He was in Match magazine all the time hehe. Oh the good old days...
