Best graphics game?

how is it not badly optimized, the power of a core i7 at 4.00GHZ 6GB ddr3 and a 5890 2gb gets 35fps at times at 1920x1200.

just check youtube its disgraceful, that rig has the power to become self aware and it cant get 60fps in crysis in firefights :<

The cry engine 2 is in no way badly optimised. You have absolutely no idea of the amount of work going on under the hood in that game. Have a look at some of Cryteks published papers on the new graphical methods they used for the engine. Ever heard of Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), they pretty much invented a method of doing that in real time and now pretty much every game uses their method or close to it.

Crysis is a tech demo, the fact that they made money out of selling it is a nice side effect. What they really wanted to do was license their engine. Unfortunately for them they didn't see the way the industry was headed atleast with regards to FPS. Cryengine 2 being aimed at the PC meant many developers weren't interested in it. Hence the reason why they have the cryengine 3 aimed firmly at being as cross-platform as you can get. They learnt their lesson.

I'm digressing from the main point though, these calls of crysis being poorly optimised are absurd. Just because your rig can't handle the graphics of the game does not mean the engine is bad. It just means that you have to wait until your next upgrade before you can play with all the eye-candy.

Bad Company 2 is a cracking game but the graphics don't even come close to Crysis!

I disagree. Got my pre-order today and some of the jungle scenes look exactly how Crysis wanted to look. The lighting is done extremely well and I'm really impressed with the way it looks. Everything looks so "flat" in Crysis. Even going back to play it again and compare I still think BC2 looks better.

I don't even play Crysis anymore but I have this stubborn ambition to own a rig that can blow that game out of the water. I hate the fact that it's 3 years old and it still cripples the best of setups. Before my current system got blew up, it handled it ok(ish) on 1900 x 1200 but with many sliders turned down. I've been watching videos on Youtube and even 5970 cards doesn't do too much better today than one would expect. I'm hoping Nvidia wows us come March 26th.

Yeah BC2 is looking awesome :D

To be fair, those have been downsampled from 2560x1600, hence why the foliage and trees look so nice. Plus I can easily get Crysis looking that good, if not better.

That said, the general lighting and colours in BC2 look mighty fine.

While it is true that the pics have been downsampled from 2560x1600, it is not correct to say the foliage and trees only look good because of that. The original 2560x1600 screens look very close to the downsampled screens. I posted those screens because the original screens are so large and cumbersome to view in a forum but I can post an original if required.

It's a crying shame to be perfectly honest (Absolutely no play on words intended), that Crysis received such a poor reception from the PC gaming community (Not that I expect anything to receive a good receiption with some of the whiny bitches that make up this crowd). It was such a good example of what makes PC gaming great. The ability to push the envelope! Develop for the future, see what you can do if you just try. This is all sounding a bit full on but what have we got since Crysis? A load of console ports and rehashes, the graphical advancement of which is dictated by two locked down boxes of antiquitated crap.

Crysis demonstrated why the PC is a great platform for gaming development (And conversely a bad platform if you don't excercise caution and restraint in measure). Unfortunately everyone was too busy looking at their bank balance and Fraps counter to care :(

No one has mentioned Arma 2... best graphics I've ever seen. Period. It's a fully fledged PC game too and lets you tweak the settings to impossible hights.

The flora, day/night cycle, ambience, etc are unmatched imo. Never been in a game before and just noticed in awe things like a dragon fly flicker past me. This sort of stuff is what Arma 2 achieves.

I think you're looking at a different ARMAII to everyone else mate :p The scope of that game is far too big for it to have truely cutting edge graphics on todays systems. Just way way too much stuff on screen. Same problem with OPFlash : DR.

That's what I'm saying though. Regardless of Arma 2's scope, I maintain I've never experienced better graphics. Just running into a pine forest gets me salivating. I guess in terms of ultra cutting edge visual effects there are better games out there though. Arma 2 basically just looks like real life half the time, particularly with the warfx mod.

Hmm. Didn't know bad company looked that good.

Crysis is still ahead though imo.

1920x1200 Very High No Mods 4x AA, my shots

You can cut down every tree in Crysis as well and use it as cover, they stay down forever and are proper physics objects.
