Read lots of reviews and threads on here but still unsure as to what Heatsink to get for my AMD CPU.

I like one with an 120mm fan of which i already have a couple of good ones.

So, what heatsink gets the most votes guys? I just want one that performs very well with an 120mm fan. Lost for choice really!! Help!

Good cooler, one thing to watch is the catches can get in the way of the NB heatsink, does on my Gigabyte EP45 DS3P, needed to bend one of the prongs.

Yeah I had that problem with my last mobo (Asus Maximus) then I had the bright idea of positioning the fan to blow out towards the top of the case instead of the back. Right through my 200mm bigboy fan lol Antec 900 ftw...

I have mine on a E2200 at 3.0ghz with full load around 50c ~ if my memory serves me right, this is used on my spare pc which I am not in front of :(

I think this was thought of as an AMD cooler to begin with and there is an attachment for the intel ones to add this to intel mobos. (bump for you ;))

I think the titan althrough thats cos its looks cool....someone got any reviews on the titan and the sunbeam in head to head I m also looking for a new heatsink...sory to *nick* the thread :P

The best heatsink as far as I am concerned is the Noctua cooler. Not sure if they do the AMD variants, but it keeps my i7 @ 4.2 as cool as anything, and well worth the money, but its very large so might not fit in small cases

How easy is that to fit, is it just a case of clipping it on like the stock AMD coolers or is there a lot of fiddling to do?

Cheers.

Push bracket into the 4 holes around the processor. And then hook the heatsink onto the bracket. It is a bit fiddly if you dont have much space and it takes quite a bit pressure to hook it on initially but apart from that i not had problems as i have a top fan. I couldnt get it in properly to get it to fit with the fan blowing towards the back of the case as the heatsink is a bit wide.

For the best modern coolers they really are massive beasts, I didnt realise how big the Noctua cooler was until my machine arrived, and it really does require a large case to fit it in, ideally with several case fans to blow the hot air straight out. If you can afford a new case, then the Antec 1200 will be the best way, and the noise of the fans is not too bad when you consider there is 7 fans on the go at all times

I have the 900 version and this seems even more affordable. Plenty of fans. My internal temperate is under 30C most of the time, even with a 4870X2 in it.

Cheers, but is it the same for AMD cpu's as they just use a clip on for the heatsinks, I thought it was just the Intel ones that used the four hole method.

One more question, does it need a back plate or does it just fit right on?

Cheers.
