yeh but for the people who own them have you had problems with the laptops?

yep

my original had a heat problem, it kept shutting off, so I contacted zepto denmark, took my hardrive out, and sent it back, I recieved my replacement 2 days later, popped my hd in and everything was great

the real bargain was that my old 6214 was matte screen and yonah, the replacement was glossy and merom :D

had it 2 weeks now no shut offs, if you have a problem talk to zepto denmark, not uk.

morten is the man.

Im busy trying to persuade them to make the case cover glow like apples for next years model :D

are you sure your not a slaes man  lol

none at all what do you get with the laptop ?

ie
driver disks etc

hes not a salesman hes like me, someone whos tired of the big hairy bs you get from computer companys, not interested in paying more for a badge and so called styling or that fat bloatware that is only helpful to pc noobs.

we simply wanted more for less

we got it :D

you get nothing but driver disks, but you can get them off zeptos ftp site anyway

join us in eden or we shall cast you down with the sodomites

There are a couple of reviews on the Internet for Zeptos. They're good value, but their build quality doesn't match business class laptops. Keyboards seem to be fine, but the touchpad isn't sunken and uses the same material as the palmrest so you can end up tapping the palm rest instead of the touchpad, not uncommonly. Battery life is decidedly 'average'. I'm not entirely convinced they have a magnesium alloy construction internally since they creak and twist. However, you can't have high spec and high quality construction for a significantly cheaper price.

If you're used to consumer laptops (like Acers :p) you'll find the Zepto fine. However, if you've used business class notebooks (HPs, Thinkpads), you would be disappointed.

I would still like to point out that there is a bargain HP notebook available for a cheaper price (£24 cheaper) with roughly the same spec (slightly slower CPU, but 100GB HD). Its business class, 3yr warranty - cheap due to being Core Duo rather than Core 2 Duo. The company who sells them only sell lappies, but OcUK also sell lappies - so no linkage :\ Once just talked about a technology and got suspended - even though I've seen direct links to products of the same company quite a lot recently.

hmmm i like the sound of that but where are you getting yours from ?

online and they specialize in laptops and send them straight to your home ;)
either them or zepto.
How come OCUK dont do their own custom built laptops? (they just sell Dell.)

The hp doesn't have a 265mb geforce 7600go and probably uses a 5,400rpm hdd.

It has an X1600 256MB which is almost exactly equal, in benchmarks the two trade places constantly. It is a 5,400rpm HD, which personally I like. Quieter, less heat, more battery life and barely any performance loss. Also have the advantage of hardware encryption.

The zepto 7600s are clocked to gt speeds, there is definatley a noticeable difference between 5,400rpm and 7,200rpm when playing games and installing things, as well as when transferring files.

Its a *laptop*. If you want every ounce of speed, then a desktop replacement is what you need. Loading a game isn't significantly faster, if its more than 5 seconds for any game I would be very surprised. Transferring files from one part of an HD to another is more about seek time than spin speed. Transferring files to or from the laptop will either be through wireless (slow) or 100mbit LAN (still not fast enough to saturate the sustained speed of a 4,200rpm drive).

However, the 7600 @ GT speeds will be pretty fast. Would explain why the battery life is rather poor.

I guess its a case of what you want your laptop for. I travel almost daily with mine, but I also love games. So it had to be strong, but powerful and light. If I wanted the laptop to be my primary PC, then... I wouldn't get a laptop. In a years time you're stuffed since you can't upgrade. The integration you get with a major company is very impressive, previously I had always gone down the performance/price > quality & brand route. However, the integration you get is exceptional. Utility tools, strong encryption, identity manager so once you've logged in, it automatically fills in the login credentials for everything else, BIOS settings access from within Windows, automatic backup, the works! Most important for me though was the magnesium frame since my previous laptop ended up with a cracked screen. This lappy's screen is very strong and always cold due to the metal ;)

What do you consider the most important aspects for YOU? Remember as long as the laptop can play the occasional game that should be enough. Your PC is for real gaming, the laptop is for gaming when you need a fix ;) It'll be outdated very quickly.

im liking the zeptos, shame they dont do any 12.1" widescreens or anything smaller. Ive used a medion md96400 for a while now, had a medion sim2000 before that and im just too used to small screen and decent portability. Ordered a Fujitsui Siemens P1510D the other day, 8.9" screen, 1kg weight it **** be the shiz despite the low 1.2centrino

Transferring files over gigabit is hampered when using 5,400rpm drives which is how I backup my data as it's the fastest practical way of doing it. Battery life is fine as long as you get the 9 cell battery which Is something I would think everyone would do with it being so cheap. I needed a good card so I could play games like dow on decent settings in between free periods at 6th form. At 2.2kg it's not dragging me down either.

Gigabit is hampered by 15k rpm SCSI drives, let alone a poxy laptop HD.

Im being sent a 12 Cell battery by zepto soon, they claim it increases the laptop life by 90%

That wasn't the point, a 7200rpm drive is faster than 5,400 over gigabit, also because it is spinning faster seek times are lower. Besides zepto offer a bigger hdd for less money than the 7200rpm one anyway.

Currently saving for one from work - Fujitsu Siemens Amilo XI 1546 17" 1650x1024 screen. 1.82 Core2duo, X1800 256MB PCI-e graphics (so can be upgraded :D), gig of ram and 80 gig HDD for £750 inc vat :D

Its not miles and miles off my desktop (3700+, 2 gig ram, X1800 512MB) so looking forward to it. They do a fairly good range though and worth a look.
