Best Media Player for H.264 and DivX/Xvid

Media Player Classic + FFDShow

1) Resize 2x
2) Blur + NR (Denoise 3D + HQ)
3) Unsharp Mask

Just did a comparison with standard default MPC and then using your settings. Seemed to make a decent improvement:

Standard:

Just tried km player, after using vlc for a while, delighted with mass improvement to the video quality + my g15 kb picks it up automatically.

Thanks guys for pointing this player out :)

i'll give this km player a try i think, from the screenshots, it looks like a winamp 5 'modern' skin, which is cack

any way to make it look similar to this?

one thing i love in mpc when it's like that is the ability to drag it around the screen

Windows Media Player Classic + CoreAVC + AC3filter = H.264
Windows Media Player Classic + ffdshow + AC3filter = Divx/XviD/Avi

Done.

Just experimenting with KMPlayer and noticed it has some DVB-T support within it. I use Arcsoft which is good for what I need, but you know when boredom sets in and one gets tweak-happy. It has picked up my BDA device, just wondered if anyone has tried DVB and managed to get it to scan for channels?

i dont want to sound rude but you guys really need to explain bit more how to install WMP classic and ffdshow.

i downloaded and installed both separate, and wouldnt open any videos apart from WMV's

thanks

This thread isn't about how to get them to work, it's about which combination is best :p

From memory:

You need to tell FFDShow which video you want it to decode. In the codecs section, scroll down and enable all for Raw video.

Enable the OSD and then play something with MPC. It should show a green OSD with frames, CPU usage etc. If it does, then it's working and you can then enable other filters and start playing. If it doesn't, you might need to enable another codec, but I've not got any suggestions there...

For the media player: VLC.

I used to use VLC for years, however I've found that until the last few versions it was lacking on good HD support. As such I've actually now moved onto SMPlayer (which is a front end to MPlayer).

Media Player Classic + FFDShow

1) Resize 2x
2) Blur + NR (Denoise 3D + HQ)
3) Unsharp Mask

I tried these settings on 720p files and it became rather jerky (Athlon BE 2450), so I switched off Resize 2x and it ran pretty smooth again, do 720p files need resize 2x?

I love the sharpen filter on ffdshow. I use around 40% of unsharp mask. Theres other filters on there but they tend to lag on high resolution videos and the difference isn't noticeable really

WMP does the trick for me. The default colours are great and the default skin does the job for me. Might not be as advanced as VLC player but its good enough for me.
