Currently I'm running,
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

but I think it might be borked so planning ahead and asking if there is something better...

OK cheers.

I'm really confused now though as the thing has just done a full pass of memtest86+ and shows no errors.

<cries into my cuppa tea.

How many passes of memtest would you normally allow to consider the RAM NOT the problem ??
Done two passes so far and been crunching for about an hour...

I'd let it run overnight to be sure.

Tho it'll likely not be tested anywhere near as long as that if you return it.

Overnight to be sure.

No point buying anything new tbh. The 975 chipset can't push memory too high, so you're only choice would be low latency kits (800Mhz Cas3) which are expensive.

Faster memory doesn't help things much, better to save for a full upgrade :)

Memtest now done 22 hrs 16 mins (41 passes) and not a single error.

Time to move onto something else.

Highest voltage BIOS will allow is 2.2v....

I think it was in it's day, don't think it ever ran 3.4.3.9

Back to testing then...

Looking around it seems to be capable of ~860-870mhz at 2.2v using the 3-4-3-9 timings.

And that's about as good as DDR2 gets at CAS3.

SPD is almost always CAS5. Otherwise it couldn't boot at 1.8v.

And I'd be trying 3-3-3-8 ;)

now he tells me
