I didn't know the NikNak link but, now you mention it, the animation style is recognisable.

I saw the movie on channel 4 in the late nineties, during the 4Later late night era. It took me years to figure out what it was called when I tried looking for it more than a decade later (could only remember limited details to assist my googling)
