Best modern RTS games

Ive just bought SupCom dispite my reservations about it. I didnt really like the demo and I never played Total annilation but considering how good some people say it is i thought the gold edition must be worth a tenner?

Until you get your hands on Starcraft II

Never played starcraft will probably play sc2 but i dont expect it to be more than a thing to play a handful of times, play through the single player thats about it...

Quality of Quantity
Micro > Macro

Both starcraft and supreme commander are excelent games of that i have no doubt... but i prefer the small squad nature where a single unit can turn the entire game that is company of heroes over the large scale war where single units dont matter in the grand scheme of things

another vote for Company of Heroes and Opposing forces..I cant get enough of it..if only they would go back and do the original campaign from the german perspective to give us more missions...even another expansion would tide me over..the engine still plays well and looks good for what it has to do..at least theres custom maps though!

Company of Heroes, hands down, no competition.

Supreme Commander was good, but it's far too long drawn out for my liking.

From what i've played of CoH and supcom, i prefer supcom. I just ejoy the scale of it much more than CoH. Both are great games but each time i've played coh it has boiled down to similar tactics. I just feel there isn't enough diversity compared to supcom in the units as well.

Starcraft is ALL about the micro. A typical force size is 12=18 units.

18 units is still a lot

things such as cover, supression and flanking in coh just make it stand out on the small scale battles in my opinion

most games have a rock paper scissors dynamic where every unit has a hard counter unit that will beat them.. coh on the other hand doesn't and most units have many different units that can beat them if used correctly.. totally different style of gameplay

1. Ground Control - Same people who made World In Conflict recently. I loved it since it offered a nice sci-fi setting and a nice plot with some amazing graphics and gameplay to go along. In addition the units you had at your disposal were limited and more realistic than most recent RTS games where you get a zone and then call for help.

World In Conflict - The ability to unleash those weapons at the same time on the battlefield put a wide smile on my face for some reason ;)

Total War games - This is the reason God placed an island called England in the Atlantic.
I mean before this game your entire army in other games was consisted of 50 people but highly loyal since they never flee or got tired carrying out your commands.

regardless of what sort of drugs hes taking, hes right, supreme commander IS the best modern RTS, just look at it in an objective way and it beats all the other stuff floating around by miles, especially C&C3 which is about as engaging as a game of snap
Unfortunately, for all its technical brilliance, Supreme commander fails to immerse and doesn't have as much charm as even the C&C universe ;)

I think would be fun to turn into poll still, but yeah supreme commander got plenty competition out there, pointless adding CnC names into poll though ;)
Why? C&C games are fun. I can play a game in less than six hours and I can run it on a computer that wasn't designed by aliens.

That said my personal favourite is World in Conflict. Brilliant game.

Its a shame, I adore Total Annihilation but I just cant get into SupCom :( I really want to as well.

Ground Control, I agree is awesome, but it's not really recent. I didnt really like GC2 though, I didnt like the aliens.

Im playing Rome:Total War at the minute, with all the RTR stuff. Its brilliance, my 840 Romans beat 2000 Greek recently, only taking 200 casualties, but total destruction of all the Greeks :)

Im really looking forward to Empire:TW

That's some pretty inaccurate info, most ranked SupCom games are over in under an hour and many never reach tech 3. Games should never last 6 hrs. If it's taking you 6 hrs to finish a game can I suggest you're not playing it right? ;) Only thing wrong with SupCom is the steep learning curve which is an inevitable consequence of the depth, but once you've mastered it there's no other RTS that compares.

C&C3, once you've played one skirmish you've seen everything it has to offer, unless all you want from an RTS is cutscenes. I dunno how endless tank spamming can be fun, I want a game to give me more options.
