Best, Most potential and worst signings of 2010-2011 season.

He's still managed 14 goals in his first season here, how many midfielders do we have that have managed that :p In fact Gibson, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs and Scholes probably don't have that amount between them!

Yesterday you wanted Valencia to be took off and Nani played on the right because Valencia wasn't crossing and kept going back to Fabio.

You also said how frustrating Hernandez was and how poor his movement was, then moaned about crossing to the smallest strikeforce in the Premier League.

Remind me how we scored again?

Too early to say at the moment tbh, in many ways it reminds me of Alan Shearer. Shearer had a very average goal ratio (1 goal every 5 games), yet he was signed (oddly enough by Dalglish) for a then british record and then went on to become what is considered one of the leagues top goal scorers. At this stage I am not saying that Carroll will or wont, but I am certainly not going to dismiss either possibility.

Ok, this is rather more complicated than it needs to be, but for the purpose of this argument I am going to define "best signing" as "best value".

Carroll cost 35 million pounds, he is striker, 35 million pounds is I would say considered to be top whack for a world class striker, let alone Carroll (not including Chelsea and City mental spending).

Lets pick the 7th highest premier league scorer of all time, Teddy Sheringham, he has scored 147 prem goals, and isnt considered to be one of the best strikers the league has ever seen (to make it fair), Carroll has 13 prem goals to his name so far (from what I can see) he has the rest of his career to score 134 more league goals to even be considered an a handy striker, he you want to talk about him being one of the top strikers, you are going to need another 30 goals on that total.

If you want to compare him in terms of the actual money spent, he is going to need to be scoring 20 goals a season for the next 13 years before he can be considered a value signing.

Or if its not shear amount of goals, he is going to need to be scoring better than a goal in two for the rest of his top flight career.

these posts are always geared for the sky 5 clubs

as someone pointed above Peter Odemwingie has been brilliant. Jermain Pennant for £1.75 million has been an absolute steal.

also playes like tiote, Gyan, Dembele and im sure others that are ignored have been brilliant

How we scored does not make what I said any less true, a striker can do **** all for 89 mins then score a goal (see Rooney against City) Valencia's crossing had been poor (and the cross for the goal was probably crap, luckily it took a massive deflection)

Taking 88 odd mins to score 1 goal from crosses doesn't then mean that is a good tactic, if we'd done something else we might have won far more comfortably.

No Shami you were just moaning like you normally do, fact of the matter is Nani was **** yesterday and you wanted him to move onto the right in place of Valencia who whilst you may think he can't beat a man was up against arguably the best left back in the country yesterday and I would prefer he turned back and kept the ball rather than balloning a cross hopefully into the box.

What happened was that Valencia beat Baines and then crossed for Hernandez (who had taken up an excellent position at the far post) to head in.

Something that wouldn't happened if Nani had been on the right, the way he was playing yesterday he would have cut inside and wasted a shot, much like he did in the first half at every opportunity but hey he's not Gibson so he can be forgiven!

Did you miss the deflection then?

I must have forgotten that Nani has set up the most goals in not only our team but the league, so you're right there is absolutely no way he would have scored or set up a chance yesterday because he certainly hasn't ever done that

No I didn't miss the deflection, I pointed it out to you and Frank who were unsure.

Nani may well have the most assists but we could have played till next Saturday and he wouldn't have set up a goal, hence why Fergie took him and O'Shea off so we had more options with Giggs and Evra but I forgot you know more than Fergie.

This isn't the thread for this any way so let's not go OT.

I think Hernandez would probably be signing of the season, he's come in and done so well in his first season.

I think there are a lot of players fighting for worst, Torres has been poor, a handful of Liverpool players.

If we were to extend this to Sheffield Wednesday signings, I can only think of maybe one or two that have been any good, and we've bought almost a new squad :(

Hernandez has to be the best, injury free, cheap and arguably the best poacher in the world, or he will be soon.

VdV is decent, but he's older, inconsistent and injury prone.

He's not at all bad, and he's done very well but theres a few things to keep in mind, Raul and RVN have done brilliantly through entire careers, Raul has one less goal, a few extra appearances at a far worse team and he's about eleventy billion years old.

Its worth noting who he's scored against, 2 against Stoke, 2 against West brom, 3 against Wigan, 1 against Blackburn, 1 against West ham, then one against Liverpool and one against Everton.

Its not exactly a list of scoring highly against the best teams in the world, he's made 40 appearances this season, a lot as subs but he's also got a fair few games starting and has been used in other competitions a lot.

He's not even close to being considered one of the best in the world, let alone THE best, serious potential but, see how he does in a year, or two, when the league knows who he is and learns to watch out for him. He might be great, he might be a one season wonder.

but but he plays for Man United so he has to be world class.

He will end up burnt out like Owen, looks like he will be first choice next season.

A handful? I'd say all, bar Meireles who has been superb, have been awful.

Cole - Had a few injuries but his general level of play has been poor as have his fitness levels. Looks like a player that's got a salary he can sit back and relax on.

Jones - Got nothing against him but when the supporters of the club you buy a player from all celebrate when he's gone you know something's not quite right.

Poulsen - We bought Mascherano who kept Sissoko out of the team meaning he moved to Juventus and subsequently kept Pouslen out of their team. We then sold Mascherano and decided to sign the player that wasn't as good as the one we sold to Juventus because he wasn't as good as the one we signed to replace him.

Konchesky - Signed to replace a far better player who was sent out on loan with only a year left on his contract despite saying he wanted to stay. Worst left back I can ever remember playing for us and not even close to being Premiership quality. His mum's a **** as well.
