Best mouse for gaming?

Is optical still better? I am on the verge of buying a deathadder with mat :)

I don't think Laser do anything better than Optical personally. Optical have always been the more reliable sensor too, with you being able to move them faster while keep 1:1 response, no negative acceleration etc.

For me the most important things in mice are the shape, size, weight, lift off distance (how much you have to lift up before the sensor stops registering, the lower the better), sensor accuracy and how fast you can move it before it starts malfunctioning. How the buttons feel and number of them probably factors too, and how the scroll wheel feels. If you can get profiles stored on the thing that might help, and if you can change the polling rate through the mouse options. Not essential though. The DPI isn't important, or being able to adjust it a thousand ways. You want something that will last and the fewer parts that can fail the better.

I like the MX518, and they're pretty cheap and do the important things a mouse should do well. Depends on the user though ofc, if you're used to a totally different shape then you might be best off finding something similar again. Never tried a deathadder so can't comment on that

I just came from a RAT 9 to the Deathadder today.

Only twice since Bl ops has been out have I had more kills to deaths got the BA today and first two FFA games my kills outed the deaths.

OA PMC SP Missions is another one always died right away and now I'm going through every one in my sight.

DA is the best mouse I've ever had and I have used most MX518-Rat 9 etc.

Can't get over how much better I'm playing games now unbelievable.

Does a decent mat make that much difference? I don't currently use one so wondered if it would be worthwhile getting one. Or perhaps I should start another thread asking this?

So far I've preferred the cloth mats. I'm still using the same one, having had it almost six years.

Microsoft Habu is the best mouse I've ever owned, mine died a few months back and I haven't found a replacement I'm happy with yet.

Wish I could find a used one somewhere but after searching the entire internet I gave up.

I just bought the Roccat Kove + and thinks it's a great gaming mouse!

Changeable LED lighting, programmable buttons, really comfortable and decent software!

Great mouse for the price!

Yep, makes a lot of difference if only for comforts sake. I used cloth for years, namely the Steelseries Qck+ which is a great mat. Recently switched to a hard mat thought (Steelseries 9HD) and love it. There's next to no friction making using the mouse a lot more comfortable.

If you want cheap and cheerful get a good cloth mat, but hard mats are a lot better.

Iv had a Logitech G5 for years now, i don't think it is ever going to die on me *touch wood*. If or when i feel like upgrading, it will certainly be Logitech.
