I swear by the MX518 and it's predecssor the mx510, so much so that i bought one for home and one for work. Have to confess that I haven't tried any of it's rivals listed here though. Also, I never install the drivers, let windows do it, opinions may vary on this though.
I hated the MX518, too damn big and uncomfortable, found it made my thumb and little finger ache because it is not sleek and low, ended going back to my MS intelimouse.
I would suggest trying any mouse before you buy to make sure it fits comfortable in your hand
It is responsive, accurate and pretty comfortable once you get used to the way in which you should hold it.
I would say that upgrading to this over my old Logitech mx1000 has had a positive effect on my gaming. I tend to get more kills in the more competetive fps games now than I did before.
