Best MTV Unplugged Song?

For me, anything on the Nirvana UiNY album will do.

Nirvana were overrated at the time and they're even more overrated now. They just came along at the right time. I blame overplaying on music channels and overhyping of Kurt Cobain's abilities.

It wasn't just that, at the time no one expected them to perform well. A lot of critics thought they could only bash the drums and thrash their guitars and not sit down, and play slowly and so intimately with an audience. It was an excellent set list as well, doing some covers with their own material mixed in. People can dismiss Cobain's ability all they want, and I agree that since his death that their music has been praised probably more than it would have been had he not died. Many Nirvana fans expected that to be the last major performance of the band since Cobain was leaning towards a solo career, and had said he really enjoyed playing acoustically.

I'm not going to let MTV, Q, Kerrang and whatever other music channels there are that have played their music constantly, voted Cobain as the greatest ever music idol, etc, affect my opinion on them. They couldn't stand Teen Spirit, and when they turned up for live tv performances to play it, they would often perform two other songs instead. :)

I agree.

It just annoys me that people are suggesting that "Man Who Sold The World" is the best MTV Unplugged song... it wasn't even the best song they played in the set.

Also, it's too much of a coincidence that all the music channels constantly play the video of it. I bet that the people who suggested that as the best song haven't seen/heard any of the other songs they played.

No, in your opinion it isnt one of the best songs. In other peoples it is, and before you say overplayed etc. I never watch music channels and rarely have the radio on :)

Its a shame we dont seem to get all the Unplugged's over here. Ive got all the music channels and dont see that many (other than Nirvana ;). Yet to see the REM and Staind sets and they're listed on the MTV site.

Am i missing these somewhere? Or should i flick over from MTV2 / VH2 now and again?

EC ... "Running On Faith", "Walkin Blues", "Circus Left Town" (rather than Layla)

Stevie Ray ... "Life By The Drop" :)

The only other person I've listened to doing "MTV Unplugged" is Chris Isaac - very good also.

Slightly off topic but how many of the unplugged performances are available as either CD or DVD??

I've got Nirvana and a compilation of some of the best songs but are there any of the other full set's available??

My vote by the way goes to Pearl Jam - Jeremy

Not entirely sure about others, but you can definitely buy the Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged set. Which I thoroughly recommend you doing. :)
