Best Need for Speed?

Road Challenge. Police chases, split screen multiplayer cops and robbers and some nice cars too. Best of the series IMO, and i doubt it will get beaten now we are getting Need for Chav, rather than Need for Speed.

NFS5 (Porsche 2000) is the best, although I haven't played Carbon yet. Justification:

-Very nice looking/well designed/varied tracks
-Good framerate
-Persistent damage model between races - an incentive not to stack in into a farmhouse
-Great 'atmosphere'/feel thanks to the authenticity and timeline of Porsche
-Brilliant career mode
-Factory Driver mode for variety
-Perfect blend of arcade racer with a touch of sim... the cars feel really good fun to drive, especially the 1978 911 Turbo 3.6

Last year I played through the game again, and it has aged extremely well.

Out of the most recent ones id say Most Wanted was the the better one. I wasnt a big fan of the Undergrounds as they were all night driving, which seemed to make it harder for me to see where the roads went.

I have just finished the main campaigne in Carbon and it was nothing special, actually looks and runs worse than Most wanted for me. And it is all night driving again :(

I loved Hot Pursuit - me and my brother had so much fun back then with our silly pentium 2. We always camp around with our spike stripes...

The last one, Most Wanted, is awesome tho. I'm loving it and even got a steering wheel on the way for it :)

ps3ud0

Need for speed 3: hot pursuit. I played that for years, me and my friend modified the cars in the game, adding new cars and making them unbelievably quick, and we would play the atlanta level and see who could do the coolest jumps on the storm drains. We had actually perfected jumping doing a number of flips and landing on the wheels again.

well i've pretty much just finished carbon and i'm left with a kind of blah feeling...

it just doesnt seen all that impressive, but I think thats because I was so amazed by most wanted (had just brought a 1800xt so the graphics were a treat)

Carbon hasnt really progressed if you ask me, its gone back to the darkness of underground and has even taken away the drag racing things that I thought were great.

So all in all, Carbon is a bit odd. Seems like a bad expansion pack for most wanted

...and seems very easy too

I have all of NFS since the Road & Track one and I will keep getting the newer versions as long as they make them. :D I basically likes all of them as I saw how they progressed in graphics, driving techniques, and challenges they put you against throughout the series. Carbon is a growing love if you ask me as it has a nice mix of cars, new features to explore and a lot of fun competing with my brother on who is the best driver between us :D

My favorites are
NFS2 => Mclaren F1  + Lotus Esprit V8 + all other cars basically: great fun

Road challenge = High stakes => lots of cars and challenges + good graphics + NFS3 tracks

Porsche 2000 = porsche Unleashed => My brother is a porsche fanatic and this is such an excellent release, graphics, tracks, cars, variaty of challenges and the only release where I couldn't actually beat my brother at all :o

NFSUG 2 => new open world racing, SUV's, lots of cars, new challenges, parts shops and all the bling bling stuff

NFSMW => graphics, cars, driving in different environment, large map, cops always a good thing " only need to be able to play as a cop ", although the damege is non existant, the cops damage scenes look nice and wish it was implemented in the playable cars themselves even if it was just graphical damage without actual effect on the car performance.

Ahhh I'm obsessed :p well its OK by me

I bought the very first one and spent many an hour playing on it with my Quickshot joystick. Then I think I got Porsche Unleashed and wasn't impressed. Most Wanted is my third NFS purchase and I think it's amazing! Have never seen the others but if they're out on PS2 I might check them out through rentals. I think I'll treat myself to a PS2 at the weekend.

Yeah, NFU2 my fave.

I got MostWanted a week or so ago, and yesterday got Carbon.

Both I find seem to have better between-game graphics, with both using real-video ( although Carbon seems to be trying to make it look like its done with pure CGI ) I have found the game graphics themselves are very poor... Sure, the reflections on the car are good, but in fact they are OTT... Not even showroom cars are THAT shiny.

Bit of fun with the cops etc, which I found a nice touch, and with Carbon, you get to race a lot of erm, races with team members, or one anyway so far for me. and this has proved handy cos Im no good at the game and have lost a couple of races only to find my team member came first wohoo!

Overall though, UnderGround 2 for me... The newer ones have seemed to lose too much actualy game in favour of eye candy, and ended up losing even that.

Saying that, they all play fairly great on even low end PCs
