Best Office Temperature

Hi all,

So we have a standard office at work in the UK with around 40 employees in our dept along with computers for each etc.

The problem we have is that people whine like little girls about the AirCon being on.

My question to OCUK is, what is the best office temp and is there anywhere on the net like the NHS site that states this? I need to end this once and for all and actually not sit here sweating like a pig every day despite it being hotter in the office than outside in the summer.....

I think I work in your office :p We have the same here in our office!

About 18C is my ideal. I'll go up to about 25C before moaning about it. That said it was like 28C in my room last night because the heating system in our house did a fail and I couldn't get to sleep. Just laid there. Cold is always better than heat so long as it's not 'typing is now uncomfortable' cold.

I have the air con remote so I turn it up and down as need be depending on the weather and how many people are in the office. Usually fluctuates between 20-24'c

I like it around 19C. Commonly I see women setting aircon to 23C though in various offices. What annoys me is that people who are cold can always put more clothes on (sweater, jacket etc). Whereas I can't strip off to less than one layer.

At the moment I'm in a large open plan office which basically means I'm screwed, as the AC system isn't designed for it really. Quite often get really sweaty in the afternoons as my area of the office is warmer than elsewhere (21" CRT probably doesn't help either).

I don't mind too much as its very controllable in our little office of 3 (3 windows and our own aircon). What I do hate though, is offices where the men are forced to wear shirts and ties, but the women where can whatever they want, which usually ends up with them all being at work dressed like they are going to the beach, but moan and moan and then some about the windows being open or the air conditioning being on!

Same temperature as it is outside if it's Summer!
I'm not too fussed so long as it isn't too hot, I rather enjoy the cold!
