Best replacement router for WiFi range on Trooli FTTP?

I've been with Trooli FTTP for a little while now, they've been great overall but officially never let you use your own router, and whilst their supplied one isn't terrible it's WiFi range is poorer compared to previous ones I've used (was using a BT home hub 2 on Plusnet and it was very good range wise). Recently they have changed their stance and allow you to use your own router as long as you understand they don't support it, which is fair enough, so thought I'd look at it again.

Can anyone recommend a router, ideally with some excellent WiFi range as at the moment the current router struggles to reach the edges of the house. As far as I am aware I can just use any router but though I'd ask in case someone else here used Trooli and had found any specific issues etc.

I have been looking at unifi APs for a while as another option but am trying to limit the amount of kit I have to keep powered up, less is more for me so if I can do it all with one box then it'd be nice...

Thanks for any help.

Appreciate that the very specific Trooli ISP part of this makes it way too specific, with that in mind - can anyone recommend a FTTP router in general that they are using with excellent WiFi coverage I could look at instead?

What's the highest Wi-FI level of your clients - 5, 6 , 6e, 7? Do you want a higher level for future-proofing? I don't think anyone can make a decent suggestion without knowing this.

Currently highest client is capable of 6e, for me ideally it would support wifi6 as a minimum. I've looked at reviews and various options but was looking for some more personal recommendations based on what you guys may have used/are using.

You don’t need to change the router to add more wifi, turn off wifi on the existing router and add some access points.

If you are a nerd, Ubiquiti are great, if you are not, something like TP link Omada are also decent. Many of these are powered over eithernet so only need a single cable, you can power multiple with a cheap POE switch or an ‘injector’ which will do a single cable.

You’ll need to hard wire them back to the Trooli router for best performance. They can mesh if you don’t/can’t do that but performance will be reduced.

I’d recommend getting one to the middle of your house on the upper floor (e.g. landing ceiling, you’ll get except coverage doing that, probably on a single access point.

If you go for Unifi kit then a U6 Pro or U6 Mesh will likely suit your needs especially if you’re tied to your router. While the U6 Pro is expected to be ceiling mounted you can place it facing upwards on a stand if it’s on the ground floor.
