Best Retro Handheld

Curious why people are going for the Mini+ when the RG35XX Plus is more powerful.

I have both the Mini + and regular RG35XX. I have gave the RG35XX to my sister because for my(our) purposes, we only play up to SNES games, so both are equally adept at that. I personally find the Mini + to have better rear buttons and more comfortable.

I got the letter 35xx plus but the Mini+ is way more established software wise.
More established how?

My RG35XX standard can play anything upto PS1 perfectly with GarlicOS and does Amiga quite well.
Stability, boot time, game load and shutdown time is all really fast. It also does arcade quite well up to 3d fighters like Virtua Fighter with the MAME 2003-Xtreme core.
Many DOS games work great as do ports of games like Duke3D, Blood, Exhumed, Quake, Rise of the triad and Super Mario 64.

I have my RG35XX+ for higher powered systems - Dreamcast/Naomi, N64, PSP & Atomiswave. Running Batocera is fantastic with a built in scraper over Wifi and bluetooth support (but dont use it) Once its a bit more optimised for boot time and cores, it will be perfect for its size. Amiga also now works much better and run the AmigaVision hdf which comes with a loader for multiple games. https://amiga.vision/

AS in Garlic OS is established for the mini+ and rg355 but still in beta (alpha?) For the rg35xx+. Batocera is apparently good though. Will probably update mine again shortly.

I posted this on a Discord group yesterday.
Yes, Batocera is really good. Its just gone into early beta. Boot time is long though, just below 50 seconds.

Here's a quick roundup of the Stock and other CFWs for the Plus.

StockOS - medium boot time, worst ui, good standalone support (no Amiga support), preset system control layouts
Batocera - long boot time, fancy ui, working scraper, best RA and standalone support (no flycast xtreme) expect worse on battery life (but have not tested)
MuOS - fast boot time, clean UI, good RA system support, no standalone emulators, expect best on battery life.
GarlicOS - no new system support
MinUI - no new system support

Update to question.

All sorted now.

That sounds too cheap...
Was for 40 odd pounds but there was a flash sale for new accounts so I snapped it up. Delivery in the next few days.

Even £40 seems a good deal. I think I paid about £50 less than a year ago. Although I have gave it to my sister since I got the Miyoo Mini Plus (prefer the wifi OS update for Onion OS).

Damn, thats a fantastic deal!
I paid £42 delivered for one of mine and thought it was good.

Put GarlicOS 1.4.9 on it and enjoy playing everything up and including PSX perfectly. The brightness is also better than the RG35XX+ (or it has gamma adjusted when the brightness is on highest)
Upgrade to batter to Liter 2800mah and it manages just over 7 hours on PSX! (this was my test result)
  • 2800mAh = 7:06

PS1 (Running Crash Bandicoot Demo Screen):Settings
  • garlic OS 1.0.8
  • default CPU clock
  • bilinear(1x)
  • brightness setting - 3 (of 8)
  • volume - low

No but I've been thinking exactly the same.

You should buy one. Post images and thoughts in here. And then I'll get one :D

I just want a Game Boy Colour that has new parts and better screen lol

Actually just got a refund on something in the region of £100 which was unexpected so I could do that! Part of me tells me I should do it before the big N sues them for using the logo in the shell.
