Best single card solution for £200

Aw man...was deciding whether to get a 4890 or GTX275, and now this has been thrown into the mix!

a 4890 is quite a bit faster than a 4870 when overclocked, well more than 2 fps + doesn't run as hot.

you need to filter out the comments from ppl whose cards have been superceeded ;), the 260's are pretty good value right now though ..the 4870 1gb cards are still ~150.

i managed to find a new 4890 for only £30 more than a 4870 ...no brainer?? for sure.

wow those 4890's look amazing! and that was only with the 9.1 drivers :S i never really read a review, i asked my friend who owned a GTX280 about the 4890 and he said it was really bad and the GTX275 walks all over it. but now i wish i got 2 ov them and not an x2!! haha

Hi guys, what do think of the XFX version for £172? It comes with a couple of free games as well ...

I still don't think it's worth the extra. I think the best bang-for-buck you can get is the cheap 4870 512MB. The memory isn't as much of a problem as the green zealots would have you believe - plenty of people run these on 24" screens without trouble. It's also got the brilliant new cooler on it that's quiet and does a good job of keeping the card cool.

It's 90-95% of the performance of the GTX260-216 for £20 cheaper. Fantastic offer.

Show's the difference between a 4850 512mb and 1gb, which as you can see arn't that much better statistically, but the tester found that 1gb was noticeably smoother.

Also 1gb only is really needed when you start runnign FC2 etc with AA/AF.

As you can see from this benchmark between the 512mb 4870 and the GTX 260 (similar performance to a 4870 1GB) there is a large gap the higher the res.

So it's your call really, it might not net you much more performance on most games but the newer one's at higher res', you might kick your self for not spending a little bit extra now.

Overall performance, then, sits between a Radeon HD 4870/GeForce GTX 260 (192-core) and a pre-overclocked GeForce GTX 260 (216-core).

Puts it pretty close to the GTX260-216.
