Best Smartphone for around £125

Looking for a smartphone for a xmas present, budget of around £125 ish.

Android phone either on PAYG or Sim free.

I know this is Moto G territory, is it still the best or are there others?

Also what are Windows Phones like?

Possibly stretch to a second hand Nexus 5. Ahh, just seen you want it for a present though.

The Moto G is nice though, I got my mother the 1st gen version and she loves it to bits.

Moto G 2nd gen? Lollipop is out for it and I'm about to pick one up too to act as a hot spare for situations like the one I'm currently in

I wouldn't stretch, overall worse than a Moto G and costs more.

I switched from a nexus 4 (after it broke) to a moto g 2nd gen and the moto g is much better imo.

Owned several windows phones now. Lumia 620 first then a 920 I'm using now. Been pretty impressed with them.
