Best software to organise my music?

Is it worth £10 though? $20 for the full version - the free download looks a little limiting to me- or is just their decription of the free version that makes it appear so?
I don't see that there is anything wrong with the non Pro version, as long as you arent using it to rip large quantities of CD's as it is limited to 1x or 2x speed, i forget.
I dont find it limiting at all.

These are the features that aren't included in the Pro version:
New in Pro! Rip to HE-AAC at >128k bitrate!
Burn CDs Faster - Up to 48x!
Faster, Unlimited Ripping - Up to 48x!
Rip/Encode Music into aacPlus, AAC, MP3, and WMA!

So really just to do with the ripping and burning of CD's.

WinAMP versus iTunes..can anyone post some screenshots of how WinAMP looks?
If you can wait a few hours till I get home, then yes someone could :)

I couldnt say anything other than WinAMP.
It really is fantastic.

I have about 30,000+ tunes in my library and it has started to slow when finding a track...but I imagine that would be the same with most librarys of this volume though.

I've got 50,000 and foobar2000 takes about 200ms to find tracks. foobar is the absolute best tool for managing music on PCs, if you're willing to spend time learning how to use it and setting it up for the way you want. None of the others come close :)

I tend to find there are two kinds of people when it comes to playing music, those who prefer a library centred player - such as WMP or iTunes (like me), or those that prefer a more playlist/minimalist one - such as Winamp or Foobar. Just find the one that you like the most :)

Winamp can come in many different forms, my favourite being:

These days I find that a library is a necessity for me, but I find that it's brilliant for that too, got to admit that I really dislike playlists so don't totally agree with what you say, but I do totally see what you're saying though :)

Oh, and this page does have some pretty good screenshots of the standard install of WinAMP

Worth a look if you're wanting to see how it works :)

The man's onto something...
Winamp, cluttered!
Everything's just *there* for you.

But anyway, I dont want to take part in another WinAMP is the best, because lets face it, it's just no challenge these days ;)

Will my iPod with AAC files automatically (or manually) update using Winamp?

Winamp can play AAC files, just (obviously) not protected ones from the iTunes Music Store. So you can sync them to to your iPod (IIRC the latest Winamp includes an iPod plugin :) ).

Winamp has a built-in portable device feature since 5.2/5.21. In my opinion this doesn't actually work very well with iPods. I prefer to remove that and install the older ml_ipod plugin which works better for me. But yes Winamp can update/synchronise your iPod and not just AAC. Any media files in your library can be sent to your iPod.

To be honest, I just organise it myself. I have thousands of albumless MP3s (ie tracks I like off an album and rip them rather than entire albums) and loads of CD albums that I ripped lock stock to my hard drive.
If I want to play the lot I use Winamp and just load the directory. If I want a particular album, they're all organised in an albums folder, by artist and album.
Same here, all my MP3s are organised into folders where everything is named/tagged correctly. Took a little while at first to bring everyting into line but naming/tagging anything new only takes a few minutes.

As for playing them I use Winamp.

I have exactly the same myself, Band - Album
or
\Band\Band - Album
if there are a load of albums by that one band.

It works well, but then again if you have a folder with 600 folders in it then it can take a minute to open up which is why I use a media library.

For a small number of albums then I'd just use this method I think.
