With 2019 coming to an end and having a great love of strategy games, I want to ask what the best strategy games of the decade are?

I might go with one of the Paradox grand strategy games. Probably Europa Universalis 4 going off my playtime on Steam.

Not a Warhammer fan in the slightest but Total War: Warhammer 2 was truly excellent. That and CoH of course!

Having all of the Total War games I have to agree. Also when they released the patch for TW: WH 2 that opened up the first games map, as well as the second, was epic.

I really enjoyed Supreme Commander, if not that, Company of Heroes was a great game. But it's release, and to this day, is plagued by performance issues.

Other than those, the only other one that stands out is Halo Wars.

I'm not an RTS guy at all, so take my input how you will.

Wrong decade, but it goes to show how far you have to go back to find a good traditional RTS :(

Supcom and FA are simply the pinnacle of the rts genre , i still do not understand why that model was never built upon , Modern rts games are just boring in comparison.

But i quess that games all over these days , just like movie reboots.

Couldn't agree more. I play FA (with the LOUD mod project) almost daily still. I've tried other RTS's like Ashes of the Singuggiluarity but it doesn't play anywhere near as good. I hope the upcoming Age of Empires brings back the RTS days but I don't know. Games today are built around the MTx model and RTS's imo just don't fit in.

Tough question. Grand strategy in it's pure form, EU4 cannot be beaten by anything out there atm, and it will be beaten only by EU5 on it's 5th year after all the DLCs :D

If you want more RPG added to it, then CK2 which is free to play, with a way to grab for free also 3-4 DLCs including Sword of Islam, while waiting for CK3.

Imperator Rome if you want a mixture of Vicky 2, CK2 and EU4.

X-COM without a doubt, Kenshi is pretty high up there too, definitely the best if you're itching for some RPG in your strategy.

Until I just checked I hadn’t realised how long ago this came out, but for me, Starcraft 2. 3 different races which required different strategies and had different styles of play and the story was brilliant.

Another vote for Europa Universalis IV, I think for me it'll probably always be in a totally different league from any other strategy game.

If you like Supcom I would highly recommend Ashes of the Singularity.

The game has come a long way since it launched, and it's still being worked on by the developers, definitely a bit of a passion project for them. Honestly I would say it's criminally underrated, very solid game, in fact I'd go as far as to say it's the best RTS since SupCom.

I've played Ashes a fair bit in the past, its good , but its still not a patch on supcom, the units don't feel weighty enough, the balance of the bigger dreadnought units seems off, they seem too tanky and underpowered. I don't know , its hard to explain , it has like a mass swarming hovering drone feel to it and feels like a simulation of an epic battle rather than an actual epic battle.

Supcom had it all

Epic scale - check
Huge unit variation -Check
Each faction different -check
Base building -check
Resource Management - Check
Artillery - check
Naval , Land and Air - Check
Mod support - Check
Thriving community - Check
Puts you on the battlefield -Check

I could go on and on and on. I dont want anyone to remake or copy Supcom but surly its obvious what made this game so great ?
Ashes goes a long way but its still missing that impact , Annihilation titans almost got there but failed because it feels like your playing inside a distorted snow globe.
