Best TV Series and Movie in 2024?

Shogun and Civil War.

Shogun has one of the best insults I've heard in it (milk dribbling...) too.

Civil War was tense and held us from the start to finish. Obviously you need dispel the notion it's a film about a Civil War and accept that it's just a setting which I think a lot of people didn't do. Which I totally get!

Best TV series...Shōgun hands down.

Best movie, gonna say The Wild Robot.

Beetlejuice II? I'm interested in your reasoning.

Granted I liked some of this year's Disney offerings as it's making a good comeback this year. E.g. Moana 2 is quite faithful to the original. However, I just felt that Beetlejuice II was more faithful to the original and I scored both around about the same. Yes it's not for everyone, especially those who didn't know the original BJ. Then there are some box office smashes I haven't seen anyway such as Venom / Wolverine / Marvel etc as the franchises aren't my cuppa tea.

I only watched one film at the cinema this year, but it was fantastic. Deadpool vs Wolverine.

Loved it.

Can't think of any memorable series.

OK, I can see that. There were definitely moments to enjoy but Beetlejuice II stuck out to me as a film that was probably a good example of arriving 15 years too late; it was nice to sea Michael Keaton in the role again though.

TV Show, like others I really enjoyed Shogun..

Movies i'm not sure i've watched any standout good movies this year.. Possibly Dune 2 like others.. but even that I thought wasn't as amazing as the first movie, even at it's huge length.. it felt rushed.. ( I guess I just preferred the books ;) )

3 Body Problem.

Dune 2. Masterpiece on the big screen, making up for what for me was a disappointing part one.

TV: Day of the Jackal
Movie: Heretic

I'm struggling to remember the other films I've seen, but I really did enjoy this. Seeing it on the big screen may have helped. :D

3 Body Problem.

They did very well translating some of the concepts and scenes from the book, the ship especially. However the pacing and structure was a bit all over the place, but generally really enjoyable. I hope they get around to a second series.

Yeah i could see that, jumped around a lot seemingly to cram in as much information as possible in to the first 5 episodes before the reveal. Became a little more formulaic after that, but still had me gripped. As with so many tv these days, i jump in oblivious to any source material. Despite the cost, i don't think they'll let it die given where they left it.
