Best value 'capable' second hand GPU?

I want to upgrade my sons GPU. I used his GPU on another build a RTX 2070 and thought I may as well give him a slight upgrade.

Bare in mind he has a Ryzen 3600 and only 16gb DDR4 I found his 2070 ran near enough anything even if I had to go low details but some of the games if i'm going low details and near enough around 60fps theres not much headroom left going forward.

He has a 1080P 240hz monitor but also connects his 4K tv from time to time dependant on the game (this is where the low details come in).

Looking around bang for buck based on his specs a 2080 TI seems the best option (going for around £200-£250) the 6700xt has more ram but typically is more expensive and the 3700 is slower but newer architecture less ram going into the 4000 series prices increase massively - are there any cards im potentially missing?

Thanks

My 3080Ti was doing okay at 4K before I upgraded about a year ago. At 1080p I'm sure it'll still handle pretty much anything.

Bear in mind that the 3080 uses nearly double the power of a 2070 - check the PSU situation.

Bought a 3080 for my daughter on another forum for £250 should do her a while as her old and 580 8g was struggling to play so new games she bought, even a 3060 12g may be worth a look.

3070 is better than a 2080 Ti in my opinion, and i certainly would not pay 250 for a 2080 Ti.

I think i paid less than that for one several years ago.
Should be aiming for a 3080 for £250 - £260.

It is probably worth double checking which games you're playing and if the cpu is pegged at 100% load at all as that may limit the effectiveness of any gpu upgrade moving forwards

Valid point, although it's unlikely that the CPU would show 100%. If the game only uses a handful of threads then a 3600 could show ~50% usage while still being a massive bottleneck

I am looking the same for myself when I can, coming from a 1080. Ebay prices on 6700XTs are getting ridiculous. Seen a few 6800s go for around £250 but they easily get crazy on bidding too. BIN prices seem to be set at 50% of whatever upgrade they have bought regardless of actual age and value.

Unfortunately my access to MM is wavering dependant on how much I post I intend to use these forums much more in the future... In the end I did end up getting a 2080ti it has yet to arrived only won it today for around £240

Mate, I hope it's a good one because you could have got a 3080 for similar or a bit more. That seems pricey to me.

Sorry for the downer, I just think that you came here for advice and that advice was largely a 3080 for a similar budget.

But then you get a lesser card than everyone suggested, I don't quite understand

3060ti is the sweetspot really just a case of picking one up at the right price. no robbery prices. 2080tis i see going for 120 never mind 200 to 250. for that you can get a 3080. 3080 go for about 200 when not asking too much 3070 about 150 to 175. all depends on the games they want to play tbh.

I understand what you're saying but where are you seeing these prices? On MM? Because I don't see them anywhere else I only have access to auctions sites etc

Not just MM, forum rules forbid me from linking others here though. Not sure on that given these aren't new cards, but other forums and second hand sales sites have had these at those prices.

Basically 300 quid seems to be the going rate for a 3080 with some going for less and some going for more.
