Hi all,

I purchased two 1440p 27" electriQ monitors back in November and one already has a full height dead pixel line. Lesson learned - I bought really cheap monitors and it didn't end well.

I don't want to be in the same situation again. I don't know much about monitors and so I ask the forum which models they feel/know to be the most reliable while also being reasonably priced.

I am interested in these monitors from OCUK:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £537.94 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I will be installing them on VESA mounts so not really interested in functionality of the stand. Also not interested in monitors with speakers.

They will be connecting to the PC in my sig.

Let me know what you all think. I'll keep searching the forums and doing some research in the meantime.

I use an LG IPS daily for a couple of years and no issues so far so i would go for the LG.

I also bought a used Dell Ultrasharp 27" 1440p that i really like but its only 60hz and not a gaming monitor, still does the job.

Cheers @dave28
My main use is for CAD, 3D modelling and 2D drawings. Outside of that it's not seeing any heavy gaming. I'd like the headroom in case I end up playing more demanding games but at the moment I think the most demanding game I expect to play would be Satisfactory.

Maybe, just maybe, Flight Sim 2020.

Both have very fast response times and are excellent for even faster paced gaming.

That LG's (first gen?) 2560x1440 Nano-IPS panel has low contrast.
So it won't tolerate lower room illumination without black starting to look bad.

AU Optronics panel in MSI again has very good contrast for IPS, which is almost 50% better than in LG.
As you'll be using VESA mount that cheapo stand without adjustments doesn't matter and don't see reason to choose LG with inferior contrast.

Fantastic thank you so much! The price of the MSI seems really good at the moment too.

The IPS 1440p high refresh monitors really are nicely priced now. Mine's two years old and cost double...I did get a perfect screen though and that's a complete lottery before you start.

I would go for LG.
But, I like height adjustable stands so I personally would spend £20 more and get the 27GL850-B with the height adjustable stand for £298.99.

I've actually just got the LG 32GP850-B from Overclockers and I'm very pleased with it.
Are the panels the same on the GN800 and the GL850 ? Remember reading in a review that they were not the same but cant seem to find it now.

Well my electriQ monitor that went back due to dead pixel line has been assessed and they decided to refund me rather than replace it. Now I need to get rid of this monitor I have and buy two matching monitors.

There's no talking me into having two mismatched monitors. I will have another look around but probably settle on two of those MSI units in my OP.

GN800 is old "lowest common denominator" sRGB gamut monitor.
GL850 (or GP) is wide gamut monitor capable to showing "brighter"/purer colours.

Can I just throw this one in the mix?

I have it in my head that I need an IPS monitor. Is VA all that bad? I'm no enthusiast, will I notice any issues with a VA monitor?
That doesn't cover even sRGB completely.
And while contrast is better than in any IPS, it no doubt has VA's "black smear" for really slow dark shade transition response time:

Only couple Samsung panels have been free of that issue of VAs.

LCD tech simply sucks.

Cheers EsaT, much appreciated. I know so little about monitors, it's a minefield for me trying to buy the right one.

EsaT answered the question above, but if you want more detail, you can see direct comparisons......

...... between the LG 27GN800-B and the LG 27GN850-B here:

Their verdict:
The LG 27GN850-B and the LG 27GN800-B are very similar monitors. They use an almost identical panel, but the 27GN800-B has a much simpler stand with practically no adjustment options. Unless the stand is a dealbreaker, the 27GN800-B may actually be the better choice. While most casual gamers may not notice, the 27GN800-B has a slightly faster response time and a lower 60Hz input lag. These are minor differences, but if you're going to mount your monitor, the 27GN800-B may represent a better value.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/lg-27gn800-b-vs-lg-27gl850-b/21782/912?

Their verdict:
The LG 27GL850-B and the LG 27GN800-B perform quite similarly overall. While the 27GN800-B has a slightly faster response time, it also has a terrible stand with very few adjustment options. That may not be a problem if you plan on VESA-mounting it, however. The 27GL850-B, on the other hand, includes two USB 3.0 ports, offering more connectivity than the 27GN800-B, if that's important to you.

Thanks both for the info.
