Hi

My 6300 Core Duo based system is currently stored on a single 160Gb SATA drive. 60Gb for OS and 100Gb for Storage.

I want to improve my video editing power and storage, so want to move to a multi drive setup, using seperate disks for capture and rendering.

My solution so far is to save the 160Gb drive for OS purely and buy a couple of other drive for the storage bit.

I am aiming for around £50 a drive, so can anyone recommend the best value drive?

Also, are prices stable or should I hold off for price drops

J

Hard drive prices tend to be relatively stable, there haven't been any particularly huge increases in performance or capacity recently and there isn't likely to be any in the immediate future that I know of.

Western Digital AAKS drives or Seagate 7200.10 drives if speed is a primary aim, Samsung drives are usually quite good for quietness. This is a very general overview though.

Maxtor appear to have had a bit of a dodgy spell* but they have been owned by Seagate for a while now so that might be passed, I haven't heard anything much recently about them either good or bad.

*I own 3 Maxtors from the same sort of time and they are all still working as far as I know, 2 are currently not connected because I don't really need them.
