My Hotpoint blew up so i need a new one. Well it went at max spin then kadunk, kadunk, KADUNK, KADUNK, followed by a constant scraping noise at which point i stopped it straight away. The grinding metal smell inside makes me think the bearings collapsed so kaput.

Budget of £500 inc install/removal and ideally cheaper. Must be stainless steel colour to fit in. And quiet so i can watch tv. Warranty ideally.

Looking at £397 Hotpoint (5yr warranty)from Curry's or 8kg 1200spin LG Direct drive from independent for £350(10yr warranty on direct drive/2yrs on rest).

Thinking go the LG way. What do people recommend? I live on my own so minimal washing.

Avoid Hotpoint, I'll never have another.

Just replaced a Zanussi (wasn't two years old) with this...

So far so good, only thing I don't like is the little tunes it plays :D

funny you should say about hotpoint, my hotpoint wasn't even to years old and the main bearing for the drum went, they guy told me wasn't worth doing, he recommended anything by Bosch, which is what I bought, from Next of all places, came the next day too.

have an old indesit, must be bout 10yr old atleast still going strong,id expect the modern ones to be the same?

When we moved into our house 6 years ago, we did a fair bit of research as we wanted a really reliable machine. We ended up looking at Bosch and Miele and went with the Miele which has been brilliant.

We had two young kids and the machine gets used 3 or 4 times a week, and we havent hada single call out so far.

Make sure you get them to position it, or have some sort of heavy duty sack trucks cos the Miele machines are really really heavy.

£500 installed for a Miele?! Not for a new one!

I have a LG for almost 4 years and had no problems, LG's seem like good value to me.

We have just had the new Samsung one, pretty much the same as the LG except I could get a bit of discount (still cost 550 quid though!!)

They are really good, very quiet and the drier comes in handy i suppose too!

Cheers for the input guys.

Heard Hotpoint have gone downhill in last couple of years. They're owned by Indesit?
Bosch were fantastic years ago but not sure on quality now. Sounds like an option but seems LG are the ones to go for. :)
Avoiding Bush and Beko (although some Beko's look nice).
Good reviews but reliability's iffy.

You really limit yourself wanting a silver one, there's 78 at JL in white and a dozen in silver, none of those dozen I have experience of.

We had a hotpoint that lasted years and now bought a Bosch from recommendations pretty much from on here but haven't had it more than a year.

I'd look at the direct drive ones next especially after a few years of other peoples use and reviews.

Indesit/Hotpoint are the same machines, you pay more for a Hotpoint though and a slightly fancier fascia.

Bush is the cheapest of the cheap generic machine, they are churned for all sorts of own brand labels.

Beko are the best of the budget end of the market, pretty reliable but cheap to repair.

Bosch have four model ranges, only one of those are now made in Germany, saying that they are still pretty good machines.

LG, I am happy to say that you will not find another machine for circa £400 that comes close, we sell them by the bucket full because you never have to go back too them.

Miele, bomb proof but incredibly expensive, you can spend £400 on an LG machine and I would happily say it would serve you just as well.

I've had a beko for almost 3 years never gone wrong once gets used a few times a week light loads, infact it's the cheapest beko you can buy lol

My Mums Beko just failed today, only 6 months old, seems to try and spin the drum at full tilt for a split second rather than a gentle turn, with a squeal from the belt and and the machine jumps!

LG with Direct Drive, you would be mad to buy anything else.

We just bought a Samsung 12Kg jobbie which seems to have a similar type of motor to the LG. How do you rate these?

I was going for the LG but the Samsung was £350 cheaper and came with a 5 year warranty.

Oh... I've just looked through the range of washer/dryers, i might actually have got the LG not the Samsung.... Hmmmm either way it's a great washer lol (can't you tell the missus uses it :/)

They are so similar it's hard to tell!

I don't come across many to be honest, Samsung machines that is, not that specific model. :D
