Best way of getting around london ?

Proper communters know how to avoid the serious crush in rush hour ;) you were stuck with the family travellers, tourists and newbie commuters :p
 
Oyster is 3 quid and i'm fairly sure that it's refundable so I do advise that. Just put some money on it then and it works on a pre-pay basis, tube and bus alike, and it cuts off at 5 pounds or 6 or something. (check first) and after it hits that amount, is free for the rest of the day.
 
so is oyster £3 for unlimited travel then ? or does it just charge you like £1 per journey and you top it up with £3 ?

im not quite sure how it works.
 
If you're coming from Dover, the M25 westbound, then M1 northbound.

You'll pretty much miss the worst of it then.
 
Also depends where you're going, if it's just around the touristy places in the west/central you can walk between tube stations quicker.
Quicker, exercise, and you see things!

I asked about travel cards and getting around london

It's £3 for the card which is refundable when you give it back.

You can then get a 3 day travelcard added to the oyster, that will cost £17.40 and allow unlimited travel within central london which is zone 1-2.

OR

You can either use pay as you go, in which you add a cash lump sum to the card (say £12), and then it takes out money each time you swipe it. If during a 24hr period you reach the value of a one day travel card then it stops charging you.

My recommendation is that if you're going to be travelling around a lot over the weekend then save the hassle and get a weekend pass, it'll work out cheaper and you don't need to worry about how much is on the card.

As someone said, for the tourist bits, which are mainly central and west central, just walk. Don't forget the Riverboats service either. Good way to get to the Tower and Tower of London.

I used to get Trains and Tube every day (still get Trains), and thought about how much more likely I was to die commuting to work in a car.

Flippant answer, but it is the truth. Public transport has high profile accidents/incidents, but it is the safest way to get around.
