~My new crucial M4 is arriving today and i would like to know the best way of installed it please?

I have 2 x 500gb ide drives installed at the moment if it makes any difference, they are not running raid.

I only just installed windows 7 2 weeks ago and have it how i like it so would be handy if i could do just a straight swap so to speak:?

The motherboard i have is a H55M ED55

Thanks all and i did do a quick search but couldnt find anything specific.

Thanks

Best thing would be to install windows 7 again from scratch on the SSD.

I installed a Vertex 2 120gb last week following these steps:

1) Remove all HDD's, leaving only the SSD connected.
2) Install Windows 7 as normal onto the SSD.
3) Run SSD Tweaker (http://majorgeeks.com/SSD_Tweaker_d6382.html)
4) Connect your two IDE drives back

That's it really, everything seems to be working fine for me and I did that as advised by another member on the forum :)

all done and working cheers.....

Whats the app people use to benchmark these so i can make sure its all working ok?

Oh and isnt there a new firmware or something im supposed to flash this with?

Don't forget to make sure that your SATA setting in the BIOS is set to AHCI and not IDE.

Yep Crucial have just released a new 0009 version firmware, get yours updated to this latest one as you will see a speed increase as well as bug fixes.

I am getting the OCZ vertex 3 SSD, should I follow these steps as well kind sir? As I will be wanting to install my operating system onto the SSD seperate from my other drives.

Slightly confused :D

I've done it 2 ways;
1. Used Acronis to clone the existing IDE install, then imaged it onto the SSD. This is good as Acronis will auto resisze your partitions to fit the new and likely smaller SSD. However, it may not be aligned which can cost in disk performance.
2. The better way is to just disconnect any existing drives, and do a fresh install onto your SSD, which will align the drive correctly.

Good to hear it's working well.

Here is the app for benchmarking:

You can check on crucials website for M4 firmware updates, if there is and if my OCZ flashing is anything to go by, it's a breeze, and can usually be done in windows albeit requiring a restart.

One more thing, turn off hibernation and disk defragmenter if you haven't already, as these are no good for space or the performance respectively.

Do you really need SSD tweaker for Windows 7? I thought it was already optimized for perfect SSD running if an SSD was detected.
