Best way to secure a heavy clock to a plasterboard wall

Hollow wall anchor;

https://www.macbuildingproducts.com/index.php?cPath=26_517

I mounted kitchen cupboards with two a piece, can handle a lot of weight. I think I swung from one before I finished the fitting.

Don't think you can get better, get them at B&Q.

Mounted my bedroom TV/bracket to plasterboard only using those same hollow wall fixings. Been rock solid for a year now even though the plasterboard is of absolutely pathetic quality. They ought to do the job just fine.

Sweet clock, too.

Thats the clock, then 3 of those weights underneath it,, clock is 15" tall

I think that will look tidier on a nice small wooden shelf.

yeah prob would, but then I wouldn't be able to use it as a clock, as its got all this stuff hanging down to work the clock.............

Don't use that style for anything substantial, they are rubbish! I have my towel rail in the bathroom fixed with these ones and they are now working their way out. You need the style with "wings" that open on the other side of the plasterboard.

? Did you use the plastic ones? The metal ones are rock solid correctly fitted.

Those are usless for me as the screw needs to be tight against something for that to work properly,, and for the clock to hang, the screw wont be totally flush to the wall

On its own yes but you need some kind of a hooks or something to hang the clock, but i cannot see the back of your clock

I think those Hollow Wall Anchors will do the job as they dont wobble if the screw is loose. Will go to B&Q tomorrow and say "I want a Hollow Wall Anchor for a ??mm wall" I will get the thickness of the wall tomorrow by removing the aerial socket, and cross fingers an toes, clock dont fall to its death. But my mate should be bringing other fittings aswel, so we will go with the strongest.

WALLplugs.

Wall, not rawl.

Also, toggle plugs or toggle bolts is exactly what you need to use. I've fixed a shelf on one side to a plaster board wall using toggle bolts and it's very stable, it can hold a person's weight (my friend insisted on doing pull ups off it).

My mate came yesterday, and he's going to use marine plywood, have it the same size of the back of the clock, secure the plywood on the wall with plasterboard wall screws, then hang the clock from the plywood. Hopefully you then should be able to swing of the clock:D

Is marine plywood stronger then normal plywood?

Fix to studs.

If fixing to studs isn't an option, find the 2 closest studs using a magnet (finds the screw heads) then remove a section between the two. Secure a batton using screws at skewed angles into the existing studs.
Replace the board, scrim and skim.
Then secure the clock to where the baton is and repaint/ paper.

Option 2, secure a baton accross the 2 studs on top of the wall and fix the clock to that, not as aesthetically pleasing.

You could use snap toggles but to be honest I wouldn't trust anything heavy on plasterboard alone. Especially if you've got the old 9.5mm board, even 12.5 or 15mm board I wouldn't trust. It just isn't designed for it.
