Ok guys just wanted some quick suggestions on watercooling fluids and what u have found to be best. Not interested in just distilled water (as i actually worry about conductivity).

Currently be using Therochill Fluid Clear (premixed) which has been rubbish (algae growing and turned water/tubing green after a while). So was curious as to what other people had found and what they are using.

Pretty much im looking for the best fluid that is non conductive so that limits me but would just like t know what people are using in there wc setups.

Distilled water is non conductive, what do you think makes water conductive?

Mayhems ultra pure has a Conductivity < 0.01 to 0.03 µs/cm (20°c), same with Feser or other good quality distilled water.

The only reason you would need to use something that isn't distilled water is if you were using a loop with dissimilar metals in it (e.g. Aluminium + copper) then you would need an anti-corrosion additive to deal with the galvanic action.

Hi ION, l been using Thermochil EC6 Clear Fluid, its been in my loop from the day l filled it 6 months ago and its still clear as ever, no signs of algae, etc. But will be going over to distilled water + Silver Coil, when its time to change the fluid, EC6 was bought for me.

You say about not using distilled but it really is the best to use, can spend a fortune on coloured liquids etc but many people end up with the dye breaking away, staining tubing, res's and anything else that is clear. Can gunk up blocks too, something I and a few others have had particularly with Feser coolant.

For a few quid you get something that will last a very long time compared to paying 10 quid a litre of something very similar, but in reality no better

As PaulyD says nothing wrong with distilled water, as l said EC6 was bought for me and it was on a special offer £6.45 - litre not to bad compared to other fluid price's. You can buy distilled water for as little as £4 - 5litre's + Silver coil £4 which will last a while. Think about it distilled water gets used by most people l dare say in this forum, if it was a bad thing to use then no one would use it, simple as that. :)

Get some decent tubing and barbs and you won't need to worry about fluid conductivity, I use Masterkleer 7/16 tubing with 1/2 barbs and it takes me all my strength and a lot of effort to even get the tubing off once fitted.

As mentioned don't use Feser the die breaks down and clogs/stains everything.

+1 to not using Feser! Dye seperation cost me over £100 retubing/draining and cleaning my blocks (not to mention the hassle which was priceless).

Tom

Using compression fittings, no probs at all they look far better and do just as good of job as barbs. At the end of the day both are good, its up to you what you use.

i'm in the process of building my first loop and only going to use distilled water and Mayhem Deep blue dye so +1 for distilled

Another happy mayhems user, currently running distilled, mayhems purple dye and mayhems biocide. No staining, breaking down and still non-conductive.

I'd get a kill coil or some biocide seraph thats the same as I was initially running and had algae forming in my res.

Using cheap deionised water, with a silver kill coil. No need for anything more expensive.

I use coloured Primochill tubing, rather than messing about with dyes. From what I gather though, Mayhems dyes are the way to go if you must.

Yea think i will go down the ultra pure water version next time. Yea didn't think of using specialised water that was meant for watercooling. Was thinking of battery top up water when i thought of distilled water. But guess ill give that mayhem ultra pure water a go cause at that price and amount really should save me a bundle. But really knew all this stuff already just wanted to know others opinions on it really.

Btw OLDPHART is ur tubing clear or did u use coloured tubing ? Currently using tygon tubing atm cause its the only tubing i've seen so far that is actually clear.

Btw mayhem been around for a while or something cause i've never heard of them before?

Ha just checked out those prices for that stuff man that's really cheap for non conductive water hell just standard battery top up water is 4 quid for 5 litres. So out of the people who are using mayhem dyes what do u think of it ? (any problems after 6months or so ?)

Oh yea PHN nuke or kill coils which do ppl prefer ?

Hi ION, uv coloured tubing as l have a blue leb fan at the front and it goes nicely with my FT01 case + mobo is blue, Masterkleer + XSPC do clear tubing. Can't say how long Mayhems have been going but there good products.

Yea haven't tried masterkleer tubing but XSPC so called clear tubing isn't actually clear at all it's more mirky than anything. Hmm probably the reason u didn't get algae in ur system oldphart if ur tubing isn't see through (as i've tried using thermochill ec6 3 times now and every time i use it with clear tubing it takes a little while but algae will be produced no matter what, so be careful don't want to end up like me having to change my tubing and my res and also having to give everything a very good clean now just cause i used that crap.

Kinda funny only reason i went with it was cause it was super cheap when i bought it was like 4.5 a litre so bought 5 bottles :D shame the coolant was a pile of poo :D. kinda ironic cause premixed is suppose to be nonhassel when infact it's turned out to be 10x more hassel later for a little time saved earlier :P

I've just ordered some PrimoChill PrimoFlex Pro clear tubing. Bit expensive at ~£10 for 2m of 3/8" but it's supposed to be very good. I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives.

Hi, to be honest can't see the clear tubing affecting the the EC6, l got two bottles one filled the loop and the other topping up, its kept under my PC desk and the bottle is quite clear you can see the water level. The living room is where my PC is and it gets quite hot upto 24'c + the sun, no problems with it.

Just a thought before you assembled your loop did you clean your components? l flushed my Rad out with clear double distilled vinger in a 50/50 mix with distilled water letting it stand for a hour and cleaned the rest as well with a fresh mix, finally cleaning them all off with just distilled water and left to dry.

As to make sure there was nothing to contaminiate the EC6 or distilled water if you used that. Its been tested with copper, brass, steel, nickel, aluminium + a range of actel / acrylic plastics.

Well actually it does mate but thats just cause the algae has access to a lot more sunlight. It's all about the direct sunlight with that stuff if its exposed too long algae will grow in EC6 (not really impressed with there anti algae forumla). Maybe i've just been unlucky but it does just sound like ur getting away with it due to coloured tubing and no real exposure to direct sunlight. So be wary with that stuff if u decide to place it on the window sill :P.

Yea sadly wish it was dirty components but did the same as u except that i used warm distilled water (amazing how much crap comes out of a thermochill rad :P)

Yea corrosion inhibitor for EC6 seems fine just seems to be that the anti algae formula quite poor. But hey this is just what i've noticed after using it for about a year and a half now (each time i've replaced the coolant same outcomes occurs 6 ish months later sometimes sooner. Only way i could stop it was using PHN Nuke which is great in all but shouldn't have to buy additives when it's suppose to be a pre-mixed coolant.

Hi mate, you don't even need Mayhem's.

Just trust me that distilled water from the chemist will be just as good. Still, if you want Mayhem's for peace of mind, just go for it.
