Best Windows Ever ?

do i detect a hint of sarcasm there? :p

Nope, no sarcasm. People are harping on about what 95/xp introduced. But that doesn't make it the best os. The best windows os however you look at it is vista. regardless how 95 changed the computer industry or what benefits xp brought.

Windows 95/98 were buggy as hell and i consider the worse of all the OS builds since WFW. Windows 2000 featured a much more stable kernel which was later used for the development of XP. Still using Windows 2000 for software development and Windows XP for gaming. Still these are my top 3:

1) Windows 2000
2) Windows XP Professional
3) Windows Vista

Vista is the best in terms of features but what about driver and software support? I've got half a dozen pieces of hardware and a couple of programmes that either don't work at all under Vista or work less well than under XP.

I actually went back to XP because Vista didn't allow me to be productive.

I agree that Vista will become the best Windows OS, but at the moment it falls short.

What's driver support got to do with the best OS? It's been said time and time again - it's nothing to do with Vista that software devs and driver writers can't pull their fingers out. Vista is great, 3rd party support is rubbish.

Well that's a terrible analogy because if Ferrari's supplier let them down two days before launch and no tyres fitted, that wouldn't be Ferrari's fault either.

Windows 2000 (At the moment)

Im certain that Vista will claim the crown though in about 12 months.

Most vista issues at the moment are the fault of 3rd partys with poo poo driver support.

98SE (ran all games, dos or not dos)>XP>DOS>ME>95>Vista>3.1 ( just had it for like 1 month, before i got win95 )

Pc downstairs dual boots XP & win98 :)

What advantage has vista then:
Kept for cache-ing I dont see any.
When i tested it for a week it was just a pain and the only nameable advantage is the one above (cache) and for some people it might look better, but to me it's just xp with a shinier look and a way too big pricetag and less support, I personally don't care how windows looks tbh (still using standard theme), I'm a gamer, the only things I look @ mostly is a webpage or a game.

Also now that we're comparing ferrari's, ill make this comparison:

Xp is an old ferrari, with a fast engine, and looks ok, and never crashes and has superb grip.
Vista is a new ferrari, with a slower engine as xp ferrari, and looks better, but once in a while the wheels lose tracktion and it crashes.

My Aunt Betty has some smashing bay windows, by far my favourite. She has some great tie backs on the cutrains with gold trim. A grand view of the South Downs, but cant change her wallpaper, she has oak panelling. Works much better than any MS offering and has transparentcy as standard. No upgrade to Vista required.

The only problem is that being a bay window you have to buy three copies and if she upgraded to Vista she would need a multi license.
