98se and XP sp2. Got Vista on my macbook, and all seems to be fine, working smoothly (all proper drivers supplied since bootcamp1.2 so all hardware is working fine). Haven't installed much software on it though. Looks nice.
Was it 98 that introduced IE-like buttons in explorer when a certain version of IE was installed? That was the first time Windows really impressed me; a simple feature I didn't think I needed but couldn't live without.
However, I'd have to say XP as well, although I'm sure Vista will eventually take its place. XP wasn't too hot in the beginning either.
Not really, some of us have been using its variations for about 6 months and even in it's state at the moment it is more stable (not that xp is'nt) and more intuative that any other windows OS.
Im not going for a 'what OS has done it for me' reply, but in use, my 2 favoured operating systems have had to be XP SP2 (in general works great, however Im having to reinstall soon due to a bug its got in it somewhere ><) as usually on a decent setup it works fine, and is stable. My other favourite would have been 98SE. I'd actually vote this above XP, because although its not supported any more, with decent drivers, it was very fast and very stable, and was also very light on system resources (games running really well with 128MB RAM anyone). Unfortunately some drivers for it were rubbish (as with XP) and dying support mean I no longer use it on old systems, but I'd say, in its day, 98SE was far better than XP ever was when it first came out, or even for the first while, and with well programmed software, was very good, and if you can find drivers, would likely still be stable with most decent programmes today. It had its issues, and BSOD, but I'd bet a lot of those were down to carp drivers!
how can people remeber 98 so well, it was terriable. Remeber when me and a fewm ates had lan partys we had to reboot before every game and someone normally still crashed.
As soon as we all went win2k problems dissappeared (although half-life didn't run well before a few patches)
