Yes, as previously stated I'm hoping it's going to be feasible to drop the new CPU into my X470-I. I'm also hoping my current RAM kit won't need replaced (3200 Team Group B-Die).

Part of the attraction of moving from Intel to AMD was the option to get CPU drop in upgrades; let's see how that works out.

I've stripped my system down and put it back on air, including the GPU. All set for popping in some new kit; hopefully this launch doesn't disappoint - it's a little bit too low key for my liking.

I notice that X470-I doesn't yet have a BIOS to support the latest Ryzen chips. How long does it normally take for the BIOS to be released?

Oh, and my x470-I is looking good for everything but a 3950x. Could the best x570 motherboards actually be the x470 motherboards with a BIOS flash? :eek:

I thought I'd be best posting this here as some may be affected - I haven't updated my BIOS yet so can't confirm if it's an issue.

From the article...

We recommend that unless you literally possess a 3rd generation Ryzen processor, do not update the BIOS of your older socket AM4 motherboard. You may risk losing features and break your RAID volumes. Find out the latest version of BIOS that has the classic AGESA PinnaclePI 1.0.0.6 microcode, and use that instead.

I'm thinking of moving from 3700x to 3900x and will want to upgrade my motherboard for it. Now that some time has passed and BIOS settled etc, what's the best choice for ATX/E-ATX?

I think now that we know Ryzen 4000 is out this year, I'll stick it out with my X470 board and see what X670 has to offer. If anything, I'll get a decent price on a second hand X570 at the time.

You don't get this luxury with Intel!

I'm using X470-I with my 3700x without issue. I'm not sure if there's specific features you need from X570 like M.2 RAID?
