Best XMBC Box

Can anyone link me to a decent setup video for a Pi2 and Kodi?

I used to run a NAS to stream to a Roku 3 but tbh I don't see the point in downloading and hoarding data when it can just be streamed.

Is the RP2 a lot faster?

We have the RP which is pretty slow but my gf doesn't mind it as we only use it in the bedroom.

I have the laptop in the main room so there is no slowdown on that at all.

I've just cancelled my Pipo X7 order, been waiting for stock for 6 weeks now. I think I'll leave it for a while and see what else comes out in the next few months. Would like to try and Rpi2 to replace the NowTV which I find frustratingly slow.

It's nice and fast on the pi2

It was just about usable on the piB, when you overclocked it, turned off extra services, used a fast sd card and a usb 2 drive, along with nfs shares.

On the pi2,it just works fine out of the box.

Openelec has advanced too mind.

^^^^ that is very encouraging. I found that XBMC, regardless of which flavour, was at the best quite sluggish when it came to navigation of menus etc. Whilst playing a film or TV show was generally fine it just irritated me to use it, even when using a known lighter skin option.

Then again I have been pleased with the AFTV, in respects of its performance with Kodi.

I found that sometime the RP would just hand and then have to restart. I will get the RP2 but I think it's £50 and the Amazon Fire sometimes drops to around £60 so is it worth just jumping to the AF?

In the original pi's defence, I always found that the playback was fine so if you use a app like Yatse for selection rather than the UI on your TV, you have no problems at all!

Of course half of the enjoyment in using Kodi in my opinion is the presentation so that's why I went down the NUC route! (and would echo FerretBoy's post above about it being the best option!)

While there are obviously many other options I tend to agree that the NUC does seem to be the best overall box but obviously at a price premium.

24p : Check
DTS-HD Passthrough :Check
Dolby True HD Passthrough : Check
4k : Check
Fast XMBC Iterface : Check

if I hadn't just spent £750 on 4 new tyres for I would be tempted, so I've settled for an HD-Fire TV for now ;)

I'd still prefer to use the extortionate money required to buy an NUC into buying a miniATI board with a full speed i5 3570K and old RAM. That puppy will blow most gaming rigs out the water yet still be able to run underclocked, consuming low power while in a tiny box quite silently.

I just can't believe folks would waste so much cash on such a weak system just because it's called an NUC and fits in a slightly smaller package.

Is there a NUC with HDMI 2.0 now?

Assuming that most gaming rigs use less than the Intel HD4000 graphics that is ;)
