BeThere - Just connected, bit slow, is this a new thing?

Just plugged in my BeBox and i've set everything up (well turned on the box, why do the instructions make you connect all those cables for nothing?).

Anyway, my connection is showing a link speed of around 15Mbit. But the Think Broadband speed test is only clocking around 5Mbps, and Newsgroup downloads are topping out at around 600k/s, so around 5-6Mbps. Could this be to do with my old ADSL connection still hanging around? It wasn't working when I came home tonight, although my old router was detecting something. Either way i've contacted my old provider (UKFSN) to cease the old ADSL service.

My Stats are:

Uptime: 0 days, 0:18:40

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 5.92 / 66.37
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 10.5 / 22.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.0

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 11,675
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 9 / 212
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 21 / 87

That all look normal?

sometime i find wireless connectivity from bebox is carp, cant even match the speed i download from usenet @ 1.9mb/s. i suggest that you try cable

One odd thing is that the Think Broadband speed test doesn't recognise the ISP, which it did fine when I set up my friend's Be connection on Monday.

For comparison, her connection achieved 10Mbit on the speed tests straight off, on the 8Mbit service!

EDIT: Just managed 11Mbit on the speed test over wireless.. maybe things are starting to warm up! :)

The speed tests via websites are inaccurate. News groups and private tracker torrents are the best.

I am on a fastpath connection with a low sn margin profile and my speeds are awesome.

I am d/l now via u torrent / private tracker at 2.3 MB/s

You are best going on the be there forum via the members homepage as they have all the answers lol.

Fastpath is just a different way in which the data is transmitted over your telephone line, which is most suited to telephone lines with a low attenuation figure, and a low noise factor. Be there will change your connection at your request via a simple ticket. If you get loads of problems i.e disconnections then just switch back :)

Give it time.
It took my connection about 2 days to reach my synced speed.

They say give it 3 days roughly...

ok well i'll let it bed in. Then if there's no improvement, i'll ask for that fastpath thing.

Should I be able to reach 1MB/s + in the evening with newsgroups? Or does Be get just as clagged with evening peak traffic? Thanks

I'm synched at about 16 meg and regularly get 1 - 1.5 MB even at peak times

Ive been with be for about 5 months now, did the fastpath method actually increase your speeds if so what were they before? Would it be worth it for me? My speeds arent even close to yours :(, I'm not sure if its the poor line quality as im less than a mile from the exchange.

The fastpath took my connection from about 19.000 kbps to what it is now so yes it does work but it isnt for everyone. Looking at your line attenuation I'd say you are a good distance from your exchange or like you say the quality is quite bad (faults????) and fastpath may not suite your connection and cause you to have problems.

You can always try it and switch back.

Ok it's been 4 days since connecting with Be, and i'm still not syncing above 15Mbps. Should I contact Be to ask for the fastpath thing now? Or do I need to wait some more?

Managed to boost my sync speed to 17,500 kbps last night by doing that trick of disconnecting the orange wire in the BT master socket.

Didn't think it's affect me, but it worked :D
Can get 1350kB/s when downloading now (assuming it's a good source like the Ubuntu download servers). Newsgroups still aren't that hot though. Can't really pass 1000kB/s :(

Lol @ winging about 15mbps, i remember the days of 28.8kbps!

remember? I am still on 28.8k, what are you talking about? :) I live too far away from the BT exchange to get ADSL, and currently waiting for BT to move my (and about 3000 other people with the same problem) line to the new exchange.. I CANT wait until I get broadband - I used to have 10mb before I moved to this property....
