Another update from EVGA Forums on the quad FSB issue - its fixed !
No details released as yet..
Looks like its under test for time being , no news as to whether its a bios fix or not.
Watching and waiting
Have to agree, the P5B-Deluxe is a great motherboard and there is something to be said for buying into a chipset several months after its release. In the past I have been one of those 'keen' folk who snapped up some early release 'beta' hardware but I've now got less time to sit playing with BIOs settings and beta BIOS, its just nice to install something and it all works. Having a hardware issue and having to spend hours/days troubleshooting just does not appeal as much as it used to.
I am just suprised that anyone would have bought into the 680i at £200-£250, I mean thats just waaay too much money to spend on a motherboard isn't it? What 'real' advantages does the 680i offer over say the P965 or the 650i
Who would pay an extra £100 to add a meagre 100MHz to their already blazing fast 3.8GHz Core2 Duo?
Also at the low end I'm still not sure whether a no-frills P965 or 650i is the way to go?
I was worried when I was setting up my p965 board for the first time because of what I had read about the JMicron controller being troublesome with some optical drives, but it was never an issue (sometimes issues can get blown way out of propertion in the user-groups!).
In 5-6 months there will be a whole new chipset fightingfor king of the hill. 6 months ago ther was no Core2Duo, if you think about it. 680i has been out for less than 3 months and it's maturing nicely, and that's good. IT Hardware moves on in jumps and that's good too. Early adopters always do the debugging for the rest.

because I`m planing to build a complete system with £2,400.
ocuk members, I may need your help to pick the best hardware when the time comes
Anyone who thinks they can buy the most expensive stuff in the OcUK store and get a stable system are almost always totally wrong. If you want stability, buy cheaper, proven hardware. The expensive stuff is cutting edge and often a huge disappointment to the uninformed.
Rather than ask the forum what you should buy, read the forum, soak up the knowledge and make your own informed decision. You'll be happier in the end
I've had the exact opposite, got one decent asus board out of 3 attempts, even then it had a sata port missing! 2 x 680i boards(evga&ecs) both work flawlessly. The asus boards have a more mature bios and an older chipset to fall back on so there are bound to be less problems(supposedly).
I think initially there were some unacceptable issues with the sound in SLi mode, but that has now been fixed, the Quad-core FSB limitations are also being fixed apparently (neither of which are show-stoppers) and Northbridge/Chipset cooling has it's limitations, however I again don't think it's so serious it would put me off buying the board (I have one already anyway!).
Somefolks like to jump on bandwagons I reckon. Luckily they tend to be hideously uninformed and their weak assertions are easily countered with reasonable argumentation.

I notice you 'champion' the 650i chipset, you would fight to the death I believe!
Tell me the five things you think are good about the 650i/680i, and also the five things you think could be improved? try and be as impartial as possible
I don't think people who talk rubbish last long on the forums. I know several people who l;ike niothing better than to heave a big stone into a puddle and see how big the waves are that they create.

I've got one, but I have 10 machines and 8 of them are DS4's. One is an EVGA 680i and the latest is an ASUS P5N-E SLi. I don't champion the ASUS, I just try and help people get the best out of it, just as OC_A64 and DarkAngel do. You'll regularly see me say that the DS3 and P5N-E SLi are both excellent and that most users would be happy with either.
As for fighting to the death? I doubt it, but if the stakes were high enough? Like if I had to use a P5B maybe?

Why? I've said my piece. I have no sway with ASUS or NVidia and other than wasting 10 minutes of my time, I don't see what purpose it serves to take your bait.
